MOU Between Ministry & Centre On Philanthropy
The Ministry of Home Affairs announced today [Aug 13] that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding [MOU] with the Centre on Philanthropy with the overall goal of promoting transparency in the non-profit sector.
Minister of Home Affairs, Michael Fahy said, “The Registry General’s Department will maintain an online directory consisting of a full listing of the Island’s non-profit organizations and the Centre on Philanthropy has its own comprehensive database. Working together we can ensure that there are no duplications on either register while promoting best practices and assuring the donor community of the strength of the non-profit sector.”

Another aim of the MOU is to promote the implementation of best practices for non-profits. In accordance with this mandate, the Centre will conduct monthly workshops which provide individuals interested in starting a charity with the vital information they need to know about the charity registration process.
Minister Fahy concluded, “We want to ensure that each entity is working towards the same positive goals regarding our charitable organisations. And as the Ministry focuses its attention more on modernising and reforming the third sector, we thought it would be beneficial to enter into a partnership with the Centre so that we could pool our resources to ensure that there is efficiency and transparency for all concerned.”
