Team Validus Wins Summer Intern Challenge

August 8, 2013

Last month over 100 summer interns from nine companies took part in The Centre on Philanthropy’s Community Day Facebook Photo Challenge, with the team from Validus emerging as the Challenge’s winner following a heated competition to garner votes for the most team ‘likes’.

The Community Day paired teams of interns from XL Group, Validus, KPMG, ACE Group, Butterfield Bank, Endurance Specialty Insurance Ltd., PwC, Ernst & Young Ltd. and Catlin Insurance Company Ltd. Activities included meal preparation, landscaping, painting to beautify buildings, cleaning boat lofts, cleaning Sea Turtle enclosures and Cup Match Tag Day preparations.

Intern teams were ‘challenged’ to take a photo that best represented their project and their company and to submit it to The Centre on Philanthropy’s Facebook page. They then invited friends and family to ‘like’ their photo with the team with the most ‘likes’ winning the Challenge.

The interns teamed up with Project 100 performing landscaping duties, planting flowers and a vegetable garden, cleaning away debris and generally beautifying the garden surrounding Rose Villa.

“This is the third consecutive Facebook Challenge we have run for our summer interns, their friends and family to highlight our community volunteer programme. They can really learn a lot from the programme while also having fun at the same time,” said Jennifer Pitcher, Volunteer Programme Coordinator for The Centre on Philanthropy.

CoP’s Community Days give local charities the opportunity to submit a proposal for a volunteer project that can be completed in one day. The Centre on Philanthropy then recruits participation from companies, and projects are chosen based on interest expressed by the employees.

The Centre on Philanthropy would like to thank all the interns, their companies and charities for participating in the Community Day and the Facebook Challenge.
