The Bermuda National Academy Under/12, Under/13 and Under/14 teams returned to Bermuda last night [Aug 26] after a successful showing at the Naples Cup in Florida.

The Under/12 and Under/13 teams won their divisions after going through undefeated, while the Under/14 team made it to through to the semi finals.

The players walked out of the airport carrying their trophies and a Bermuda flag, receiving cheers and applause from the large group of family and friends gathered at the airport to welcome the young athletes home.

A player from each of the three teams stepped to the mic, with all three thanking all the parents for the support, as well as extending their thanks to the Coaches.

BFA President Larry Mussenden also arrived in Bermuda after traveling from the Cayman Islands, and PLP MP Michael Weeks came out to congratulate the football players, and noted the large presence of parents and family, saying it’s a real testament to what parental support can do.

U/15 players Osagi Bascome and Knory Scott also returned from the CONCACAF U/15 Championship in the Cayman Islands, and spoke about their experience in the tournament, which saw Bermuda place 4th of 23 teams and win the Fair Play award.

  5. Maceo Dill says:

It was a pleasure to work with the boys during the tournament and while the results were good and should be enjoyed we also have to commend Richard Todd for the vision, organizational skills and work rate to pull off this trip off for such a large group. What was also great is the pre-preparation that went into training for this tour. The boys behaved good and represented Bermuda well, which didn’t go unnoticed by others in the hotel and around the tournament. The boys were also put on a strick diet during the tour with you could see helped thier focus and energy levels when the heat was heavy. I encourage all of Bermuda to enjoy this but continue to encourage the players that we have to stay humble and that we all (players, coaches, parents, admistrators) still have a lot of improving and hard work to put in to build a style of football that Bermuda can be proud of and get us back on par with the power house teams of our concacaf region

In all this was a very professional experience for all involved and as we all work hard to continue to improve our off the field behaviours and understanding, it will improve our game on the field.
