Premier Speaks At KPMG Infrastructure Summit

September 24, 2013

CC_KPMG Island Infra. image 2Premier Craig Cannonier lead a panel discussion yesterday [Sept 23] at the 2013 KPMG Island Infrastructure Summit in Miami, Florida; stating that the Bermuda government views the development of infrastructure projects as “pivotal for the creation of jobs for Bermudians and that it can be achieved through collaboration with local and international businesses.”

In addressing Premiers and government officials from 13 participating islands and close to 140 investors, developers and service providers, Premier Cannonier affirmed that in a competitive environment, getting products to market in a timely manner is critical to business retention and thereby economic growth.

He further stated that since the traditional stumbling blocks to infrastructure development has been largely bureaucratic in nature, the new collaborative efforts of Bermuda’s Economic Development Committee [EDC], in which the relevant decision makers are all at the table at the same time, has made a significant difference in cutting through the red tape for business proposals; speeding up the approval process through transparency, integrity and the commitment to a fair and open process.

Premier Cannonier further commented, “The Bermuda team is very encouraged at the positioning that Bermuda has experienced at this Summit in relation to our competitors.

“While we are all experiencing similar economic challenges and face growing demands from the private sector for major infrastructure developments, Bermuda is ahead of the curve in providing innovative solutions through private/public partnership [PPP] by lowering the risk for investors through collaboration. E.g. The new Tourism Authority, the Bermuda Hospitals project.

“Several attendees have applauded our initiatives and have stated that they will look to implement the same model in their own countries,” said the Premier.

“We are at this Summit to attract investors. I applaud KPMG for bringing together a captive audience of keen Bermudian and international investors who are interested in the types of capital projects like the ones that exist in Bermuda.”

In panel discussions slated for today, Minister of Public Works Trevor Moniz and Minister of Tourism and Transportation Shawn Crockwell will discuss strategies for successful capital project management the redevelopment of the Bermuda airport as well as the creation of the Bermuda Tourism Authority.

Opposition Leader Marc Bean has branded the trip a “waste of taxpayers funds,” and said that PWC was paid approximately $500,000 to produce an Infrastructure Strategy for Bermuda.

“We urge the OBA, for the good of our Bermudian construction workers and companies, to stop wasting time, stop wasting money and implement the Infrastructure Development Strategy,” said Mr Bean.

  1. S Smith says:

This guy has no clue! What does the BEDC which used to be the Bermuda small business development company have to do with infrastructure?

    • Hmmm says:

He is talking about the “EDC” , put on your reading glasses

    • Mazumbo says:

And still cant get him on Sherrie J. LMAO

      • Sandy Bottom says:

And Bean is still too weak to fire his shadow finance minister. Since we’re bringing up irrelevant issues.

        • Concerned Citizen says:

Fire him for what reason? I don’t think Bean has a reason to fire anyone, and he certainly don’t have the money and influence to make a case disappear……that’s the M.O of the other Party mate. Social media……….lol exposes all. Politically guilty in constituency 2. Better yet, let have 2 by elections, outerbridge and Burt, and let the people have the final say…….doubt you want that.

          • Sandy Bottom says:

Burt thinks he’s shadow finance minister? When his most recent experience of “business” was setting up an illegal unlicenced counterfeit alcohol website?

        • Mazumbo says:

Like cannonair was too week to fire his ag. LMAO

      • Lay down! says:

Who wants to go on a brainwashed show!? And if he did it will be like talking to a WALL! Because people like u would be saying whatever this, whatever that ect…! If i was him i wouldn’t go to the Sherri J show i will talk 2 Miss. Thang! So put that in your pipe and smoke THAT!

        • Mazumbo says:

Ill smoke it if its worth it. LMAO

          • Mazumbo says:

But I don’t blame him or any of the Obeah from going on Sherrie J cause they would be making a bigger fool of themselves, she knows her s*** so they better come right. Bunch of coward punks. LMAO

            • Mike Hind says:

Says the guy throwing around tough guy insults while hiding behind a fake name…

    • Out of flight says:

Same thing happened with self-determination……politics 101 but he did not know. Lord help us NOW. As he says the politics of NOW. Help us NOW Lord.

  2. bdagirl says:

Let me give you a clue…. The Bermuda Economic Development Committee is a Committee made up of the Premier and other Cabinet Ministers, it is not the same thing as the Bermuda Economic Development Corp.

  3. Amazed says:

“In panel discussions slated for today, Minister of Public Works Trevor Moniz and Minister of Tourism and Transportation Shawn Crockwell will discuss strategies for successful capital project management the redevelopment of the Bermuda airport as well as the creation of the Bermuda Tourism Authority.”

Could someone please tell me which of these two Ministers have been involved or responsible for “successful capital project management” and when?

    • Hmmmmm says:

Oh don’t you realize that all you have to be is OBA and in your DNA you are a proficient and skillful Minister. I can’t wait to hear what Trevor Moniz says about Heritage Wharf. I wonder if he will be as nasty, snide and obnoxious there as he is here. Perhaps he’ll tell them that the Breakaway was tied to the original wharf on its arrival in May and that the Norwegian Dawn rode out a Tropical Storm tied to it in September. Things he’d never admit in Bermuda. meanwhile Crock can do what he does best: nod as the masaa speaks….

  4. watching says:

This whole thing is laughable. If it wasnt so costly, and so serious, it would be so darn funny.

  5. Impressive says:

this is all a great show of deception.. take a bow..zzzzz

  6. Concerned Citizen says:

Most Oba folk know this to be a “south beach” party…….well, except for the excellent and erudite Mike Hind! Nothing but frauds.

    • haha says:

Are you present during these meetings and outside of these meetings in Miami?! Really though, just answer that question…please.

    • hello says:

Concerned Citizen: Are you traveling with the Ministers and watching all their various activities inside and outside of the meetings in Miami? Just answer me that simple question please.

    • Mike Hind says:

Any evidence of that? Or just more smear and lies?

      • Hmmmmm says:

Please explain why evidence has only been required since December 17th 2012. Previously all one had to do was say it and it stuck. I don’t quite understand.

      • terry says:

        Rummy? Who is he.
Do you have any evidence to the contrary Mr. Hind.
        Don’t feed the troll folks.
Remember the election past where people he knew and associated with put up the “target” thing with reference to the PLP.

        Evidence? Smear?

        • Mazumbo says:

Do you need EVIDENCE that a tree makes a sound when it falls when no one is around to hear it. LMAO

          • Mike Hind says:

I have evidence of that. Good try though… (Best you got? Seriously?)

        • Mike Hind says:

You’ve sunk to a new low, Rummy. Seriously vile. You truly are a sad, sad old man.
          Pathetic.

          • terry says:

            This is Not BIAW.
            Now go away troll.
            Facts are facts.
And no I am not a sad old man. I have a life not like you.
Now go back to your Lodge Members.

            • Mike Hind says:

              Now you’re talking complete nonsense.
What’s next? You gonna get mad as someone and accuse someone of paedophilia for no reason?
You’ve done it before, Rummy. Gonna do it again?

When you actually add to a conversation, when you actually say something that makes any sort of sense? Maybe then you can accuse someone else of being a troll.
Until then? As long as you keep talking nonsense and spewing vile lies and innuendo?
We’ll keep treating you like the pathetic old drunk that you are.

              • terry says:

Show me where I am a drunk. Prove it.
                More lies. No facts.
                Go away troll.

                • Mike Hind says:

                  Shhh shhh shhh…

Let the sane people talk. Go back to your corner. Your diaper needs changing.

        • terry says:

          FACT.
          Go away troll.

    • Just Wondering says:

So what was this when the PLP went?

      • Sandy Bottom says:

        Don’t you know?

When the OBA does it it must be baaaaad.

When the PLP did it, it must have been goooowad.

The OBA do it, they’re “nothing but frauds”. When the PLP did it, they were prudently looking out for Bermuda’s infrastructure.

    • Lay down! says:

      What about the playboy mansion?

  7. Rick Olson says:

We can capitalize on this by learning from our mistakes which is have bull**** conferences that attendees can right off as a tax expense and get a free vacation at the the same time….. WIN WIN for all except Uncle Sam ! This s how we we rebuild tourism and NOW no referendum needed or TA.

    • Sandy Bottom says:

Was it a bullshit conference the two years running that the PLP attended? Was it a bulls**t conference when Bean attended it?

      • swing VOTE says:

It was bulls**t then and bulls**t now. People voted for change not the same old bulls**t. Stop defending BS from a few folks in the OBA who are having trips like the previous Government. They didn’t need to send that many people. Rick is right get on with the referendum call a date for December when my kids return from college.

Sandy go lay down on the bottom where you belong and think about it the OBA only won by a slim margin. Although the PLP had 14 years to screw up, people are only giving this Government until the next election. No one has the patience to swallow more BS.

The only thing that will save this party is replacing it with a respectable leader. No one wants a Mascot Premier anymore this is not the NFL.

        • Mike Hind says:

          There it is again!

          • Impressive says:

hey Mike,, but for real,, I can’t take the OBA for real it they continue to persist with the current leader, I really can’t.. Bermuda is in a serious situation, we can argue all day about what got us here, but we need to spend the energy on moving forward. With that being sad, I can’t imagine that this current leader is the person for the job, and its painfully obvious. imho

        • Sandy Bottom says:

You change your name every time you put on a message don’t you, Mr Smith / LIKE / Swing Vote. So no-one believes you’re a ” swing voter”. When the PLP did it you thought it was fine. Now that it’s the OBA you’re changing your name every few minutes to type your “lolol” messages. Pathetic.

        • Johnny says:

I am sorry swing vote, but the conference was BS in 2011 and 2012, but when KPMG found out that the OBA was coming they upgraded their status from BS to very important meeting not to be missed.

  8. My Kind says:

I have to agree. It’s a pissup at South Beach, a party in Miami. Nuthin more. A perk for our politicians.

Least it ain’t de Playboy mansion.

  9. I have no idea ... says:

I have no idea how this will benefit Bermuda. I don’t think we gained anything when the PLP attended the previous two meetings so why should things be different this time around?

  10. Nicky Gurret says:

No one has convinced me that this conference is of great value. It was doe not appear of value when the PLP attended nor now that the OBA Ministers and their entourage.

I am all for Bermuda Ministers sitting down in Bermuda with their Permanent secretaries and accountants and coming up with an infra structure plan to develop infrastructure. Where is the plan that is workable?

  11. JUSTIN FRANK says:

One question….”Where did this meeting begin”? Meaning, was this a meeting already an agenda.

  12. Dreadlocks says:

This OBA will be a one term govt.I’m packing, the PLP will then finish Bermuda off!

    • Lay down! says:

Sure cuz i want people like Sandybottom mazumbo betty trump (she many people), and co SUFFER with ME! And i will laugh my A** off! Thank GOD i have multiple passports!

  13. JUSTIN FRANK says:

Where is “The Bermudian Love”? Has anyone here ever been right their whole life up to now?

  14. Hey PLP trolls….I heard they all sat in coach for this trip…tell me how many times…in the entire 14 year reign…did ANY PLP entourage do the same???…………
