Worldview Travel Merges With Meyer-Franklin

September 3, 2013

Worldview Travel Bermuda [formerly C Travel] and Meyer-Franklin Travel have struck a merger deal and will be joining forces.

A spokesperson said, “Worldview Travel Bermuda [formerly C Travel] and Meyer-Franklin Travel have struck a merger deal that will see the island’s two leading travel agencies join forces to deliver better pricing and service to Bermudians travelling for both business and pleasure. The merger is also intended to drive growth and new employment opportunities in the local travel sector”.

“In today’s competitive travel industry there are two things that matter most,” said Cheryl Hayward-Chew, President and CEO of The Meyer Group. “First and foremost travel volume to drive better price negotiations and secondly savvy travel agents who can leverage their expertise to help clients make smart choices and access value-added extras. This merger gives both companies – and indeed Bermudians – exactly that.”

“Meyer-Franklin Travel joins Worldview Travel Bermuda, which is already a part of Worldview Travel family of brands. Worldview Travel is a long-established and highly-respected travel company with sophisticated corporate and leisure travel divisions and more than 15 offices throughout the United States and Canada”, the spokesperson continued.

“By combining the volume of the Island’s top agencies, together with the $600 million in travel spend from the larger Worldview family,” said Ricci Zukerman, President and Founder, Worldview Travel , “we are confident we will be able to work more closely with a wide range of travel suppliers to secure rates and services that are second to none. This is good for Bermuda’s travellers and for the growth and employment prospects of the merged entity.”

Meyer-Franklin Travel will operate going forward under the Worldview Travel brand. The new entity will reside at 35 Church Street, across from the General Post Office. The Meyer Group’s other operations, including Meyer Freight, Meyer Shipping and Meyer Tours are unaffected by the merger.

“The merger will result in the redundancy of one administrative position. All other staff will join forces with the goal of increased growth as the more efficient and better positioned merged entity moves forward. Hiring and training of new agents is a priority for 2014 and beyond”, the spokesperson said.

“This change is a great opportunity for the newly merged company, our clients and future employment prospect on the island,” concluded Gerard Bellino, Vice President, Worldview Travel. “With greater clout and better tools, the future of travel in Bermuda is bright across many fronts.”

  1. Robert says:

Wasn’t C-TRAVEL formed by ex Meyer travel employees ?

  2. Island Boy says:

I want to be positive and optimistic but somehow I doubt that the lack of competition will bring lower prices. I hope I am wrong. I have supported both agencies in the past and will continue to do so as long as prices are competitive and the service is there.

  3. Y-Gurl says:

Another good company being taken over by a questionable one…c-travel….really???

  4. SoMuchMore says:

years ago they split, some staff stayed and some went on to form a new company called c-travel. now today they connect again as one.

i guess you can be away too long.

  5. Elston says:

    Who uses travel agencies anymore?

    • Bermydude says:

Don’t you check Expedia kayak or Travelocity or cheapoair , Hotwire or hotels.com they are all revel agent run sites

  6. Bermydude says:

Wasn’t a merger worldview travel brought out Meyer frankilin the we’re on te brink of closing their doors

  7. St.D says:

Travel agents are tough – they compete one on one against global online agencies and against the airlines, cruise lines etc. They have to meet or beat the price and give better service. Good luck to them all.

  8. To tell the truth says:

Let’s get it straight. It was a buy out and NOT a merger. World View Travel purchased Meyer Franklin. The press release did not give the full scope of what the ‘deal’ was. Many agencies have closed because of the worldwide recession. The opportunity was there for World View Travel and they made it happen.

  9. Truth is killin' me... says:

Just by your tickets online from the airline or hotel. Delta or Marriott for example. No cheaper alternative than that. School me if I’m wrong?

  10. Winnie Dread says:

Better pricing my eye, lol. Now here goes the monolopy and up goes prices, and he I go to the internet.

  11. To tell the truth says:

The travel agencies do not increase the prices – the airlines dictate ALL fares. Many people cry fowl when a company closes because of lost jobs. What do you think all the people who go on the internet do. Put Bermudians out of a job when they pay for their tickets/cruises online. Sending money out of Bermuda and not ‘buy Bermuda’ so to speak. Agencies do not charge any more for tickets or cruises. What they do is charge a service fee.

  12. Winnie Dread says:

That’s my choice if I try to save a few dollars here and there, I know what it takes to operate a business in Bermuda,in any economic climate. If I can get savings which will be benificial to me and my family why not.

  13. ex agent says:

what everyone is missing is that these two bermudian owned companies are now owned by an american company. They hide behind the name worldwide bermuda but they are owned by worldwide travel and bermuda is just a branch. when the US company decides to pull the plug there will be no more travel agencies anyway..the days of 60/40 are gone…
