Bermuda Anglican Church Prays For Peshawar

October 4, 2013

The Anglican Church of Bermuda is offering prayers and support on behalf of the people of Peshawar, Pakistan in light of the recent and tragic bombings.

On Sunday, 22nd September, as worshippers finished their Sunday morning service, two suicide bombers discharged their explosives outside the 19th century All Saints Anglican Church. Most of the poor worshippers had gathered at the church’s lawn for free food when the attack occurred. 85 persons were killed, the majority being children, women and the elderly, in the worst ever attack in Pakistan.

Bishop Humphrey Peters, the Bishop of Peshawar, said, “we are grateful to all those who prayed and are praying regularly for us. We are thankful to all those who are standing with us to raise their voices against this brutal attack. We are thankful to all those brothers and sisters who stood with us in this difficult time and are supporting us through prayers.”

Bishop Humphrey goes on to ask that the family of Christ all around the world lift them up in their prayers as they go through a very hard time.

Bishop Nick Dill, the Bishop of Bermuda, said, “There is a historical link between Peshawar and Bermuda. The Anglican Church of Bermuda wants to demonstrate solidarity with the Church in Peshawar as it faces these uncertain times.”

Bishop Nick has today written to Bishop Humphrey to offer prayers and support and has asked Bishop Humphrey whether there are other ways the Anglican Church of Bermuda can help in the rebuilding of lives and the Church in Peshawar.

Bishop Nick has also invited all Anglican Christians in Bermuda to pray for their sisters and brothers in Peshawar, for All Saints Church and their priest, Revd. Ijaz Gill.
