KPMG To Host Make A Difference Day On Friday

October 24, 2013

On Friday [Oct 25] KPMG in Bermuda will close its doors to take part in its annual community charitable event – Make a Difference Day [MaDD]. MaDD is a hands-on, volunteering day during which the employees give their time to make a positive difference in the local community.

This year’s chosen charity is Outward Bound which is located on Paget Island. The organisation is a non-profit, registered charity in Bermuda providing outdoor education and activities for interested individuals of any age. The mission of Outward Bound is to help people discover and develop their potential for themselves, others, and the world around them by engaging in challenging experiences in new environments.

Utilising the skill sets of their staff, KPMG in Bermuda will donate time, community service, and useful equipment to complete the following tasks:

  • Landscaping
KPMG Team members will help to improve air circulation and visibility by cutting back overgrown foliage, brush and undergrowth from the pathways, amenities and accommodations of the outward bound facility. The KPMG Team will also help to make a difference by focusing attention on the well loved Paget Island Obstacle Course, cutting back growth 3ft – 5ft from the course and cable attachments.
  • Fort Cunningham
The KPMG Team will also work alongside members of the Outward Bound Board to clear and otherwise open the grounds around Fort Cunningham, preparing it for greater use by students next season.
  • Painting and cleaning
KPMG Staff will clean and touch-up with paint much needed areas such as cabinets, walls and wooden rafters after a long and intense summer of educational courses.

Jay Smith, Compliance Manager at KPMG in Bermuda said, “MaDD is a wonderful opportunity to work and socialise with colleagues in an environment other than the office. It also provides an opportunity to interact with other employees you do not see on a day to day business. Although a lot of work is involved, any social event which involves giving back to the community is worth the occasion.”

Mark Norman, Executive Director of Outward Bound stated, “The Charitable Board for Outward Bound Bermuda appreciates the assistance of KPMG in Bermuda with a community clean up day at our Paget Island base. With only one full time staff member, keeping up with maintenance requirements on the Island is often a much neglected task – so it is absolutely amazing to have this many people in one day to give us a jump start to our winter programme after a very busy summer! Many thanks to KPMG.”

KPMG staff members will be on Paget Island from 8:45am – 2:15pm.
