Man Admits Threatening Ex Girlfriend’s Mother

October 28, 2013

A 22 year old man appeared in Magistrates Court this morning [Oct 28] where he was remanded in custody after being charged with threatening his ex-girlfriend’s mother.

Kevin Simmons pleaded guilty to uttering threatening words to the mother of his ex-girlfriend, by shouting out to her: “Open that window or I’ll beat s*** out of you.”

Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told Senior Magistrate Archie Warner that in St George’s on 23rd October 2013, Simmons was outside the residence of his ex-girlfriend, saw her mother at a window and shouted those words to her. He also said “I’m gonna get you.”

The mother called police. When police arrived Simmons ran off, but was captured and arrested after a short chase. He was taken to St George’s Police Station where he was searched and questioned.

The police search revealed the knife. On questioning, Simmons admitted the offence of using threatening words, and told Police that he carried the knife for protection.

Speaking to the Senior Magistrate, Simmons said that: “I do daily patrols around the Island. I do it by myself. I’ve been jumped and attacked and I carry a knife for protection.”

The Senior Magistrate ordered a Social Inquiry Report and a Psychiatric Report, and remanded Simmons into custody until December 2013.

Bermuda should be ashamed of itself

give your people decent employment and a sense of purpose or watch Rome burn around you

  2. Next says:

What an absolute loser. So many “men” walking around threatening and actually abusing women and children. Did your mothers not hug you enough or something?

  3. Huh?? says:

You ever think that ‘some people are just unemployable’, by choice?

They (some) need to check their attitudes, take some pride in their appearance and how they present themselves in public and act like they want to work by showing the HELL up! #imjustsaying

All you read about in the media these days is how people have down pat ‘how to act the fool’ and get their names in the news for all to see, including potential employers.

When this segment of the Bermudian community finally realise that NOTHING in life is FREE, that you have to earn it yourself by working a hard days work, then may be just maybe we will see some change.

  4. Wise Guy says:

@JS, although I agree with you I fail to see how that applies in this case.

This guy sounds like he needs mental help, not a job.

    • js says:

On an island 21 square kilometers, 800 nautical miles at sea with a resident population of 65,000 everybody needs to be seen as having value as you are for all intents and purposes alone in the world

however the great irony is that the vast majority has been written off and deemed valueless and therefore now represent a clear and present danger to the minority

the other great irony is it is you who is stuck on the island with them not the other way around

if you share with your neighbours such a small space completely isolated from the rest of the world wouldn’t you want your neighbours to at least have the opportunity of employment an purpose so as not to come knocking on your door in the middle of the night looking for a handout

      • fasho says:

        “deemed valueless”

You are saying this like the person being ‘deemed’ has no control over it. Graduate from high school, maybe further, and you WILL be deemed valuable.

“Speaking to the Senior Magistrate, Simmons said that: “I do daily patrols around the Island. I do it by myself. I’ve been jumped and attacked and I carry a knife for protection.” And this means what? Just the type of person I would hire and trust, I think NOT but I sam sure he is really a good upstanding citizen. Oh yeah at JS I was taught never raise your hand or voice at a woman.

  6. Impressive says:

Daily Patrols??? and he actually had a girlfriend.. cheesh

  7. Nuffin but da Truth says:

    daily patrols ….doing what?

little punk a**,threaten any of mine and you’ll wish the police were there.

  8. Malachi says:

Spend some time in Hamilton on a daily basis and you will witness dozens of young men AND women who are not “playing with a full deck”!

Some of these cases are drug related and many of them come from situations where they are have been abused since childhood. Have you ever witnessed a scene where a young girl is walking with two or three toddlers and every word out of the mother’s mouth begins with “F”? Ever hear them shouting and screaming at the little ones as if they asked to be here?

And in many of these cases there is no father around – he’s there only when he wants to have sex with mother, who often obliges only to get pregnant again.

That’s one reason we have so many screwed up young people on this Island.

Isn’t it ironic: we need a license to own a car, a license to own a dog, but anyone can have a baby!

  12. terry says:

    And therein lies the rub.
“screwed up young people on this island”.
    Think about it.

  13. Ty says:

Bermuda is seeing the results of drug addicted babies, drug and alcohol abuse, broken families, people that haven’t got a clue about parenting, and spoiled little boys who always ran to mama when they got in trouble. Mind you,we are not alone and I suppose could be a lot worse….

  14. Amazing says:

poor parenting is the number one reason for most of the foolish behavior we see today. Until this is addressed, it will only get worse. the problem citizens today are having or will have children so can you imagine what bda will be like in 20 years? the children today are the parents of tomorrow…it will only get worse.

  15. JT says:

I know this man, he had a job and stability, I hope he gets the help he needs up westgate, if not this is the start of a very slippery slope into life as a jaibird. If you know his family you’d know this is out of character.

  16. ed says:

Does his own patrols…hmm…he’s definitely a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

  17. boo says:

People need to start beating their children again…
