October 21, 2013

Minister Wayne Scott and Speaker of the House Randy Horton are attending the CONCACF Summit in Cayman, where Mr Horton will serve as a keynote speaker alongside FIFA President Joseph Blatter and former Manchester United player Dwight Yorke.

Mr Horton, the representative for C#32 Southampton West MP,  played professional football with the New York Cosmos in the North American Soccer League from 1971 – 1975; the Washington Diplomats from 1975 – 1976, and the Hartford Bicentennials in 1976. He was Rookie of the Year in 1971 and, as the League’s Leading Scorer and Most Valuable Player in 1972, and was also a NASL All Star from 1971 – 1974.

The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football [CONCACAF] said the “principal objective of the Sports Summit is to enrich the vital partnership between governments and football federations in order to further growth and develop the sport within the region.”

“The Confederation will assemble all stakeholders to better understand and maximize the potential for strong partnership and cooperation between government authorities and federations,” said CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb.

Panelists include Mr Horton, former Manchester United and Trinidad & Tobago National Team forward, Dwight Yorke; UNAIDS Senior Advisor to the Executive Director, Dr. Djibril Diallo; CEO of the Supreme Committee, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Hassan Abdullah Al-Thawadi; CEO of the FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010, Dr. Danny Jordaan and Prime Minister of Jamaica Portia Simpson-Miller.

Minister of Community, Culture and Sports Wayne Scott — whose trip is being hosted by FIFA – noted the importance of attending this Summit.

“I am honoured to be a participant at the 2013 CONCACAF Sport Summit,” said Minister Scott. “It is an important meeting and an equally significant opportunity to network with Sport Ministers and gain insight on what other countries are doing to build partnership and sponsorship for sports bodies.”

The summit will be opened by Cayman Islands Premier Alden McLaughlin.

  3. Prayerful says:

We must remember that Speaker is a sportsman in his own right, and as has been stated he is a panelist among other high ranking sportsmen.

What’s wrong with us that we cannot give credit where it is due.
