Three Sex Cases Heard In Magistrates Court
Three different cases were heard in Magistrates Court this morning [Oct 3] with three men [all in their 30's] all accused of sexual contact with young girls [aged 12-14] in unrelated cases. None of the defendants can be named at this stage for legal reasons.
Case #1
A 33-year-old man was remanded into custody by Senior Magistrate Archie Warner after facing multiple charges involving unlawful sexual activity with a 14 year-old girl with whom he had a position of trust. The charges were deemed to be indictable and can only be tried in Supreme Court, so the man was not required to enter a plea.
Case #2
Another man appeared on similar charges in an unrelated case and was granted $10,000 bail. Assisted by an interpreter the 32-year-old foreign national [who is married to a Bermudian] was charged with being a person in a position of trust and touching a twelve year old girl. The man pleaded not guilty, and the Senior Magistrate set trial for January 2014 and ordered that the man must surrender his travel documents and stay away from the complainants.
Case #3
A third man — 32 years old — also appeared in Court this morning and pleaded not guilty to multiple charges involving unlawful sexual activity with a 12 year old girl. Various details of the allegations were read out in Court, and the Senior Magistrate was told that the girl told her parents who contacted police who then arrested the man. The Senior Magistrate ordered that the man must be remanded into custody.

I will continue to pray for our men and young girls. We as parents need to really educate our daughters that these older man dont care about you and are out for only one thing. All they are doing is taking advantage of our young girls and stealing their innocence from them. Young girls keep your guards up and dont befriend these guys, they only tell you what you want to hear to get your goodies. Apparently these guys are insure because more then likely they can’t get someone their own age. I am just so disguisted to see this in the paper. They need to have these guys hung by their private part were it no longer useable….creeps

Where are these judges from ? to think these so called men !!!!!!!! are allowed out on bail !!!!!!!!! for being charged commiting these sick acts……I think it is time for Bermuda to bring in some tough judges….. ENOUGH OF THESE OLD MEN JUDGES we have here !!!!!!!! we need more female judges….. who will understand what it is like to be raped…..Bermuda wake up!!!!and get rid rid of these old so called judges…..
I agree Webster. It frustrates me how lenient they are. It frustrates me more how inconsistent they are.
Unfortunately, it does not matter how guilty or innocent you are these days. He who picks the best lawyer wins. If your lawyer can plant a seed of doubt in the magistrates head, or confuse them in any way – case dismissed before a trial even begins.
How can you rule on cyber crimes, if you don’t understand it, or even understand the internet, SMS, email etc..!? How can you rule on rape, child pornography, sexual abuse, if it has not affected you? Many police and social workers must attend lectures, seminars, and take courses to understand the impact and understand the crime and its impact. Do we ask the same from our judges! No. So why are we surprised when many walk away with little to know punishment , while the victims get to relive their pain.
Time for the AG Chambers to have the magistrates upgrade their skills or have them move aside. I pray that nobody reports back to say they already have this training, because I would hope that their judgments are based on ignorance and not intentional. That would leave me with some hope at least.

The foreign national is granted bail and the other 2 i am guessing to be local are remanded!! They all should have been remanded!! And no trial til mid 2014…let them experience some horror!! SMDH!!!!!
“Ditto”. You said everything that I was thinking I totally agree. What was the reason for 2 remanded and 1 out on bail? It leaves too much for the imagination. Inconsistency on the same day, it seems by the same judge.
This happens constantly. I am terrified at the thought of one day possibly having a daughter with all these disgusting men in Bermuda preying on little girls. What a bunch of losers.

Why bail a foreign national???? Surrendering his travel documents in useless, as he can still find a way to skip.
Exactly, all he would have to do is report their passport stolen to the nearest consulate once they turn it in, and then order a new one and have it sent to their home. In 10 days or less they can be out of here with a new passport.
I say if they’re guilty, take them up to Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. Have their hands and feet bound. Then tie a string around their “unmentionables” and attach a 10 lb weight to the other end. Then throw it while their victims watch! Step two, do the same to each finger and toes. Problem solved.
And locals don’t skip the island??? Where have you been living? Amazing that your focal point was directed at that part of the story and not the fact that at least three more young children were affected by someone’s sick and selfish act.

No doubt locals will also skip, but there is a glaring case of unfairness here. My heart goes out to the little girl involved, who now must live with the fact that this alleged monster is still on the street.

This is going to sound terrible to some, im a cold blooded businessman, but Bermuda should effectively legalize prostitution like the uk not Amsterdam, so guys can just buy it – it would provide jobs and a tourist attraction.
Sometimes adults in law make it worse as in one case they child wants to clearify and the police have refused to hear her!

The foreign national will disappear. I am sure he holds another passport. His pic should be displayed at all ports of departure.

Please don’t get me wrong, I am also a mother and I know we all want to protect our children but sometimes, just sometimes, you have to look at your children. THIS MEN IS INNOCENT!!!!! Don’t believe have a point…I’m not saying either of us are defending alleged pedos, but sometimes these “girls” are not even “touched” by the individual they named who takes the fall, but it is their own close family members who are the ones allegedly doing the wicked deeds and because the “child” reaches out to another male, since the femLes at home and around refuse to believe her…that guy becomes the fall guy.
The sad thing is, the police do not even let the “child” clarify and give statement about the truth. In some cases the child does but the police often do not let it be admissible in Court. Reminds of my the days when women of a certain race screamed rape and men of the other race took the rap for it, just because. Same thing, different period of time.
Listen hear. Children and mother’s can be very manipulative when they can not have what they want-The Ultimate Family… And contrary to what you all think not all of these men are guilty.

In some cases step parents will give a hug or a kiss to their step children. Ofcourse they are not the real parents and it can be taken to a whole new level by other people. Just not right!

Case # 1 is INNOCENT….
We have so many people suffering as a result of allegations. They can make him out as a monster, they can treat him as a monster, but deep down in me and many others, I know for a fact he (case 1) did not do these alleged disgusting acts. he is innocent

I am disgusted by the comments I am reading on here. This is exactly why we have pedophiles running around the island and why so many cases go unreported. You have no idea how hard it is for a child to report something like this, especially if it is a father figure she cares about. You have no idea what these families and victims have gone through. How dare you come onto a public forum and accuse a child of lying. And stating his innocence with such certainty and authority! As if you were present! If you were not there to witness what these children endured then you are in no position to declare any of these men innocent. We have a serious pedophile problem in Bermuda. Family and friends who try to support these men at the expense of shutting down the child need to stfu and sit down. You can ‘stand by’ your loved one without being so tactless. Coming onto a public forum and calling a child a liar….my god Bermuda has gone to the dogs.
