BHI Accepting Applications For START Program

November 27, 2013

The Bermuda Hospitality Institute announced applications are now being accepted for the START Program; an internationally recognized Hospitality Industry Certification program for high school students ages 16-18 years.

Running January 14th through April 26th, this free program provides a career based educational experience that prepares high school students for the opportunities that await them in the hospitality industry.

“41 students have successfully completed the START program over the last 3 years”, said BHI CEO Karla Lacey. “Each summer these students are employed in all sectors of the hospitality industry, from the hotels and restaurants, to travel agencies, tour companies and more.”

A maximum of 12 students will be accepted into the program, which requires a 16 week commitment after school and on weekends. Upon successful completion participants are guaranteed full-time summer employment within the Island’s hospitality industry, for as long as they are in high school or college.

“We look for students who have a great attitude, like working with others and have a genuine interest in the hospitality industry,” said Ms. Lacey. “Whether they ultimately choose a career in the field, or continue part-time employment opportunities to supplement their income while furthering their education, this certification boosts their employability.”

Deadline for applications is December 9th.

Please contact BHI directly for application details on 295-5049 or info@bhi.bm.
