At sometime around 2.30pm today [Nov 7] there was a collision which resulted in the car crashing into the Francis Patton Primary School yard, and landing on its side.

The driver was extracted by the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service at about 2.45pm. Bystanders indicate that the car may have come off a neighbouring property, crashing though a hedge to land on the school’s property. A hedge, with visible damage, can be seen nearby.

There is no indication that any school children were injured in the incident, and as of now there is some confusion as parents are starting to arrive to pick up their children, and access to the school property is being restricted as emergency personnel handle the situation.

The driver was taken to the ambulance, which has not yet left the scene as of this writing. Firefighters have flipped the car over, and the damaged vehicle remains on scene.

Footage + audio of statement from the Fire Service:

Update 3.21pm: Lt Mark Taylor from the Fire Service has confirmed the welcome news that no children were injured, and also said the driver’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

When asked how the incident occurred, Lt. Taylor said it looks like she came from an adjacent property bordering Francis Patton – the same thing bystanders said.

I shudder to think of how many children would have been in the path of that car had this accident occurred 30-60 minutes later. Hope the drive is ok and so thankful no one else was hurt.

Which room is holding the drivers-ed class?

What you need to do is get ya stupid backside away from the computer and making such imature comments at the wrong time. Lucky for you I can’t use harsher language.

Urgent Care had an ex ray machine and takes care of bumps and cuts if more money put into it they would have gotten there much quicker

  7. Sandy Bottom says:

Too many bloody idiots driving around these days.

    • Interested says:

Tsk tsk, a typical response from someone who does nothing more than post negative comments. You assume that the driver is a “bloody idiot”, thus implying that you know who she is and the details of what happened. I truly hope that nothing of this sort happens to you or someone dear to you. As the old adage goes, it takes one to know one so back at you; you should be happy to know that your club’s membership just doubled!

Thank God that it was a hedge and not a wall. It could have been a whole different story. As well as no one was hurt.

  9. Gopher says:

Breaking News: Former student takes a trip down memory lane. No life threatening injuries, just a mild case of school daze. An education is worth falling hedge over wheels for.
    Hope the driver is ok.

Thank G’d no children were there.

  10. Triangle Drifter says:

Just completed a 3500 mile trip around the US Southeast & did not see a single crash or get delayed because of one. How far could one drive in Bermuda, where speeds are so much slower/safer, & not see come across a crash caused by driver error?

Why, why, why? Are Bermuda drivers that bad? Is it too easy to get a license?

This is not to say that US drivers are great. Saw plenty who were weaving in lanes, speeding up then slowing down, standing dead at green lights etch. Why? Invariably it was fooling with the cellphone.

First thing to do at a crash is check the drivers cellphone.

      @ Triangle Drifter

Or car malfunction, or an attack (heart, diabetic…) of some kind to the driver, or driver error (gas instead of brake), or misjudgment of the area she was navigating, there are many other options to choose from. Don’t just assume cellphone usage.

THE BIGGER PICTURE… no little ones were harmed.
