Caron Bermuda Welcomes New Board Members

The alcohol and drug treatment centre, Caron Bermuda, has welcomed four new board members: Caroline Desmarais, Jocene Wade-Harmon, Michelle Jackson, and George Jones.

Ms. Desmarais is currently the Chief Development Officer of Bermuda Press [Holdings] Ltd. Previously, She was the Chief Executive Officer of Praized Media Inc., in her hometown, Montreal, Canada. She now calls Bermuda her home.

Ms. Desmarais has a passion for helping people and has always taken an avid interest in her community through media and philanthropy. She has great fundraising experience from having been on the fundraising committee of the Alzheimer’s Society of Montreal for several years.

Ms. Harmon is an executive Human Resources Professional. Her 25 year career spans a cross section of Bermuda’s premier employers, with the responsibilities; encompassing all segments of human resources, union negotiations, organizational development and implementing best practices and building successful HR departments from ground up.

For many years, Ms. Harmon was the key person in driving the Investors in People initiative for Bermuda Government. Additionally she serves Bermuda as Justice of the Peace  and her professional memberships include the Society for Human Resource Management, Bermuda Human Resource Association, American Society for Training & Development, Pension Commissioner [National Pension Scheme] and CARON, Bermuda.

Ms. Jackson is an Executive Vice President, Group Insurance at the Argus Group, with the responsibility of overseeing the Group Insurance department which includes Health Insurance, Group Life and Disability as well as Worker’s Compensation. She joined the company in 2004. She serves on the Bermuda Diabetes Board, is a YouthNet mentor and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Mr. Jones, a Bermudian, is the Group General Counsel & Company Secretary in Bermuda, Gibraltar and Malta for the Argus Group of Companies. He serves on a number of other boards and committees, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bermuda and the Education Committee of the Bermuda Insurance Institute.

Mr. Jones currently sits on the National Security & Defence Review Committee, which was jointly appointed by Government House and the Government to undertake a comprehensive review of Bermuda’s national security and safety assets with a view to better improving coordination and delivery of critical services.

      I think you’re on the right track. A lot of serious organisations look for anonymous comments on sites like this, just to see who wants to be on their board.

      The other way of getting onto a board is to be an experienced and well-qualified senior executive with a proven track record. But you already know that if you actually read the article.
