Two incidents during the Remembrance Day holiday weekend resulted in the prompt arrest of three suspects, with the accused men appearing in Magistrates’ Court yesterday [Nov 14] to face charges, the Police said.

“The first incident was a reported robbery that occurred around 5:30pm Sunday, November 10th where a 45 year old Paget man was robbed of a quantity of cash and jewellery by a group of men in the North Hamilton area,” a spokesperson said.

“One of the assailants allegedly had a firearm. A 31 year old Pembroke man was subsequently arrested and appeared in court today charged with the robbery. He pled not guilty and was remanded into custody by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner until November 28th.

“The second incident was a reported handbag snatch that occurred around 6:30pm Monday, November 11th in the Parsons Road, Pembroke area where a 76 year old Pembroke woman had her handbag taken while she was out walking.

“A 17 year old Warwick male and a 19 year old Pembroke male were arrested shortly afterwards in the surrounding area. Both teens pled not guilty to the offence and Senior Magistrate Warner also remanded them into custody until November 28th.

“These prompt arrests underscore the commitment of the Bermuda Police Service to bring offenders before the court and we thank the public for their assistance in such matters. Once again, members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious circumstances or activity they may see directly to the main police telephone number 295-0011 or 911 in an emergency.”
