Daren A. Herbert Starring In ‘Floyd Collins’ Play

daren a herbert bermuda actor 2Talk is Free Theatre has announced their opening shows for the 2013-2014 season, with Bermudian Daren A. Herbert headlining in one play, called Floyd Collins, in the title role.

Broadway World reports that Floyd Collins by Adam Guettel and Tina Landau, in co-production with Vancouver’s Patrick Street Productions, will star Daren A. Herbert in the title role, with Arctic Air’s Kevin McNulty and Republic of Doyle’s Krystin Pellerin as Floyd’s father and sister. Other cast members include Nathan Carroll, Jay Davis, Michael Torontow, Katey Wright and others.

Floyd Collins will be directed by Peter Jorgensen with musical direction by Jonathan Monro. Set in 1925 Kentucky, this riveting musical is based on the true story of an American cave explorer and entrepreneur who, in his search for the ultimate tourist attraction, found himself trapped 100 feet below the earth.

Following its run in Vancouver, Floyd Collins plays as part of the TIFT’s season in Barrie previewing on April 10, opening on April 11 and closing on April 20.

Born and raised in Bermuda, Daren Herbert has worked on stages and sets on the island, in Canada, the US, Korea and Japan. He earned a 2010 nomination for the Canadian theatre’s coveted Dora Award for his work in “The Toxic Avenger Musical” and won a Los AngelesDrama Critics Circle Award as well as an NAACP Theatre Award nomination, for work in the West Coast premiere of “The Wild Party”.

His film and TV credits include “Dreamgirls”, “2012″, “Hot Tub Time Machine” and “This Means War”. A Warwick Academy graduate, Mr. Herbert Daren holds a BFA in Theatre Arts from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, as well as an MFA in Drama from the University of California Mount, St, Irvine.
