PLP Pleased With SAGE Meeting Turnout

November 28, 2013

PLP Leader Marc Bean said he is pleased with the turnout and results of his Party’s first of a series of Town Hall meetings surrounding the findings of the SAGE Commission held at St. Paul’s Church Hall yesterday evening.

“We approached the SAGE Report with a view of informing the people about its recommendations and getting their feedback on the best way forward,” Mr. Bean said.

“What we learned from the feedback we received is that Bermudians are interested, engaged and want to ensure that the focus go beyond simply cutting jobs and programs.

“Raising government revenue and ensuring that any privatization will benefit the widest and most diverse array of Bermudians possible, were just some of what we heard from our audience and they can be assured that we are listening,” Mr. Bean added.

The next PLP town hall meeting on SAGE will be held on Tuesday December 3rd starting at 7:30 pm at The Dalton E. Tucker Primary School.

I think it is ridiculous that someone at the meeting intimated riots as an option. The fact is simple. The government is not efficient and needs to cut the fat. I am dealing with a government worker at the Rent Commissioners office. She is the rudest most arrogant woman who is incompetent and feels no sense of duty to the public. I dealt with a woman in the cabinet office as well though her responsibilities had to deal with paying for services rendered to government she was arrogant and rude. This is a random sample of the attitudes that people have when they think their job is secure. We need to get rid of some of those permanent secretaries as well. It is crazy that we all have to work hard out here while they are on the mother ship relaxing and disrespecting us. The assistant rent commissioner needs to be fired first! Then go around to the women in the offices hiding out pretending to be doing something. they need to get off of the potty and lets save this country from ruin. If it means one or two mortgages versus our national survival…they have to loose their house. PLP needs to tell us…where is the money gone and where is the money coming from. To sit there and dictate to the country that they will hold us hostages will never fly….we know better now….oh yes…I can see clearly now the rain has gone!

I’m sure even Dr. Brown would agree that an attitude of entitlement that the civil servants have was fostered, encouraged, and enabled by the previous government. Private sector workers have carried the burden of paying taxes into a broken, bloated government system to keep these people in a job. The party is over, face the fact that the government taxes can’t support the gravy train without borrowing money year over year. Its irresponsible for the opposition to mislead these people over and over after years of borrowing to keep them ‘employed’.

      • Robert says:

Governments, past and present, have advertised new positions, is it the fault of those who applied and were successful in their applications that now we have a civil services that, by most reports and assertions, bloated ?!!! Why continue to blame the workers for their bosses failings ??!!!!

    • Robert says:

This is a ridiculous statement, there was no reference of riot, the lady said ” we do not need riot” ,but thats what the majority want the hear, because it affirms their belive that the majority are unintelligent and uncontrollable.

  2. What Grinds My Gears says:

Generating additional revenue streams will not solve the problem. It will only service the debt. Cuts have to be made

I dont remember anyone intimating that riots were the way to go. I remember a woman stating that she did NOT want there to be riots. Rest assured though, that if the government decides to enact all the recommendations without including any consultation with the people that will be most affected, then there is the possibility for civil unrest. I dont think anyone would want this to happen, but some of the recommendations are very radical and will cause mass unemployment. The budget may be balanced but at what cost?

    • Toodle-oo says:

Two lawyers of questionable notoriety (and no longer with us) incited the riots of 1977 without even using the word.
There’s a lot of very ignorant people on this island who are very easily riled when they hear certain trigger words.

The rest of us understand very well what’s being implied and why , even though you and others will vehemently deny hearing such phrases.

    • RIdiculous says:

      you are confused!

      • Robert says:

I hope for our sake that we do not have civil unrest, but like i said before, there is a certain segment of our beloved country who would like nothing more then to see the majority to act uncivilized !!

    • Robert says:

      Thank you so much !!

  4. Chris Famous says:

It is not surprising in the least that the RG twisted a statement.

“A lady clearly stated riots were not the way to go so lets find pro active solutions

  5. Navin Johnson says:

I am always left standing that any of the PLP ministers can even face the people of Bermuda….wrecked the economy and placed our future in jeopardy with reckless haphazard governance and still talking about their plans to right the ship the very ship that they nearly sank ….amazing….

    • Mike Hind says:

As long as they’ve got the propagandists out there pushing the “It’s the global economy, not us!” lie, they’ll keep showing up, head held high.

      • Robert says:

Who are they, folk sing man ?!!!

        • Mike Hind says:

I don’t understand the question. Are you saying that there AREN’T people out there trying to put out a message that the mess we’re in is SOLELY the fault of the global economic meltdown?
