Bermuda Junior Swimmers Set New Records

The Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association have updated the Short Course Meter records following the recent meet in Montreal, along with the Mailboxes Unlimited Winter Age Group Championships.

During the Provincial Invitational P1 and P2 Meet in Montreal, Quebec, Canada Vanessa Esposito broke four 15 and 16 Girls records.

Esposito set a 200m individual medley record of 2:31.49 during the preliminaries [breaking her own record of 2:33.80] and came back in the finals to lower her own record again finishing in a time of 2:31.28.

Esposito then broke the 50m butterfly record of 30.63 set by Lara Loescher in May 2007 when she touched the wall clocking 30.57 during the preliminaries. In the finals, she came back and broke her own 50m butterfly record with a time of 29.77

A total of six age group records were broken during the Mailboxes Unlimited Winter Age Group Championships at the BASA Pool. Keagan Woolley broke four, while Emma Harvey and Jesse Washington also broke a record each.

Emma Harvey set a new 11/12 year old 200m butterfly record with a time of 2:46.65, breaking Ashley Yearwood’s record of 2:47.76 set in 2007.

Jesse Washington set a new 13/14 year old  200m butterfly record touching the wall in a time of 2:19.18, breaking Nicholas Patterson’s record of 2:27.69 set in April 2009.

During the 9/10 year old boys 200m freestyle race Keagan Woolley broke a 25 year old record when he touched the wall in a time of 2:33.81, breaking Stephen Fahy’s record of 2:34.92 set in 1988.

Woolley then set a 50m backstroke record of 36.34, breaking Olympic swimmer Roy-Allan Burch’s record of 36.75 set in 1996.

Woolley set a new age group 100m freestyle record of 1:08.43, breaking Nicholas Thomson’s record of 1:08.90 set in 2002.

The young swimmer then proceeded to set a new 100m backstroke record of 1:18.18, breaking his own record of 1:18.95 set last month.
