Bermuda Gymnasts Win Big In Connecticut Meet

bermuda gymnastics CI 2014Four of Bermuda’s senior gymnastics team members and Head Coach Duke Nelligan traveled to Bridgeport, Connecticut to compete in the Level 9 USA Gymnastics competition at the Abie Grossfeld Invitational.

In the team’s first off-island competition of 2014, the girls earned 1st place overall.

In the individual events, Sydney Mason [15, BHS] earned 1st place overall in her age group and was also 1st on floor. Clara James [14, BHS] won the gold on uneven bars and the bronze on balance beam.

Danielle Wall, 14, also a BHS student, won the balance beam title and was 3rd on floor exercise. In the junior division, Anna Francoeur [11, Warwick Academy] earned 1st place on Floor and 3rd in the all-around.

Coach Nelligan reported that this was a good chance for the girls to warm-up for the exciting season ahead.

The entire senior team travels on February 7th for the Chicago Style Invitational, one of the largest and most prestigious meets in the U.S.

Clara James and Danielle Wall are also preparing to travel to the first major international event of their careers, the Junior Pan American Championship, held in Brazil, from March 26th to 30th.
