BSSF To Host Frantic Assembly Workshop

January 28, 2014

The Bermuda Shakespeare Schools’ Festival has organised workshops for Bermuda’s schools led by choreographer Steve Kirkham of the award-winning theatre group Frantic Assembly.

The workshops, which will be held from February 3 through February 6, 2014, will provide opportunities for up to 200 students from Saltus Grammar School, CedarBridge Academy, The Bermuda High School, The Berkeley Institute, Warwick Academy, Somersfield Academy, and eight middle schools to explore the physicality of theatre and learn from one of the best teachers in the industry.

Mr. Kirkham has worked with Frantic Assembly since 1998 and has choreographed productions in the UK and internationally. He is currently working with Frantic Assembly’s Artistic Director Scott Graham as an associate movement director on The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

Frantic Assembly was formed by Mr. Graham with Steven Hoggett and Vicki Middleton in 1994 and continues to collaborate with many of today’s most inspiring artists. Having toured extensively throughout the UK, Frantic Assembly has built an enviable reputation as one of the most exciting theatre companies in the country. The company has also performed, created, and collaborated in 30 different countries around the world.

In addition to its productions, Frantic Assembly operates an extensive Learn & Train programme, introducing 6,000 participants a year to the company’s process of creating theatre in a wide variety of settings. Frantic Assembly also delivers Ignition, an innovative vocational training project for young men, particularly targeting those with little previous experience of the arts.

A spokesperson said, “These workshops, which will also allow theatre teachers of the participating schools to participate, are part of The Bermuda Shakespeare School’s Festival [BSSF] commitment to providing our youth with exposure to professional theatre.

“BSSF is a registered charity that focuses on three pillars to accomplish this commitment. These pillars are the popular annual Shakespeare Festival, which showcases the stunning capabilities of our local youth, their scholarships which support further education in the arts, and their workshops.

“The BSSF would like to acknowledge the assistance of Belinda of Mintflower Place, who has assisted with arranging the space for the workshops.”

The three-hour workshops will run from 8.30am to 11.30am and 12.30pm to 3.30pm, from February 3-6, 2014.
