Kia The Best Selling Car In Bermuda In 2013

January 17, 2014

Island wide sales figures for 2013 show that Bermuda Motors sold the most cars of all the dealers, with Kia the Island’s most popular brand of car.

Almost half of the 932 new cars purchased in 2013 were bought from Bermuda Motors, according to Transport Control Department statistics. The company sold 426 private, Government, GP and doctor’s cars during the past 12 months, giving it a 46% market share.

Kia remains the company’s best-selling brand, accounting for 36% [338 cars] of the market in 2013 – 14% ahead of the next best brand – with Kia cars topping the sales numbers in licence classes B, E and F.

The Kia Picanto was Bermuda’s best-selling car last year with 153 vehicles sold:

The year’s total car sales figures indicate a slight growth in the automotive sector with the number of sales up from 893 in 2012. However, figures are still 54% below 2007’s high of 2,016. The numbers indicate consumers are increasingly choosing smaller cars as vehicles in licence class B and E accounted for 444, or 48%, of vehicles sold.

The class B Kia Picanto was Bermuda’s best-selling car last year with 153 vehicles sold [69% of the class B sector] while the 1.6 litre Kia Rio hatchback topped class E, with 106 sold [48%]. The 1.6 litre Kia Soul led class F with 44 vehicles sold [20%], followed by the Toyota Avanza [also sold by Bermuda Motors], with 27.

Michael Butler, General Manager of Bermuda Motors, said, “Naturally we are delighted to again be Bermuda’s favourite car dealership. We think the figures reflect our dedication to providing quality cars that offer good value for money along with superior customer and after-sales service.

“The continued success of Kia cars is a reflection of their consistent quality right across the range and the fact that they back that up with a five year warranty – no one else in Bermuda offers that kind of guarantee.

“In addition we back that up with fixed-price servicing on all Kia cars – again, something no one else offers in Bermuda – which really offers value-for-money in the current economic climate.”

He added, “The figures for the industry overall show that car sales have remained basically the same for the last three years and will probably stay at that level for at least the next two years.”

This is not intended to bash the vehicle industry or Bermuda Motors for that matter which all provided employment.

Bermuda has a great love for the automobile as our climate and way of life may require us in some instances to make an investment in a car.
Over the years I have owned several cars, some of which were purchased from Bermuda Motors and I must say I have been more than happy with their products and service.

There are as you know two sides to every story,as in life we all have a choice and we all have the right to plan our own destiny.

What do they say ? “judge not, as you shall be judged”.

50 years ago my friend purchased a beautiful dark green MGB and what did I do ? well ! it was my choice to buy a small piece of land , and I had three jobs to pay for it,also I had the bike to get to work on, and after many years I built a small cottage on the land.

Today. I often wonder where that beautiful green MGB is, may be it is still on the road or stored in a garage or most likely buried down deep next to the Airport.

Over on the South shore in Warwick with a beautiful view of the ocean there some apartments ready to move in with a bus stop just outside the door.

May be its a ” sign and drive” if you will.

In the years to come you can go to Hamilton and purchase what ever car you like, they will still be there waiting for you.

    You do have a choice.

Wow. If a Kia is our best selling car, it really does show what little affordable choice we have.

Kia’s are not good cars, don’t let anyone tell you they are.

  2. MGB says:

    and your point is ……

    • Kangoocar says:

His point is very clear to anyone that has a brain! I as well started with next to nothing and chose to not go for the bling stuff and rode a bike for a few years and once I became somewhat financially stable I bought a second hand car!! Many years later I could pay cash for any brand new car I want on this Island and would not even notice the money gone, but guess what I didn’t !! I found a desperate person advertising to sell their car on emoo that was 3 yrs old and in perfect shape, the car was 3 yrs old and sells new for $35000.00 they were advertising it for $17000.00, I told them straight up I would give them $13000.00 right now for it cash, guess what??? They took it!! 2 yrs later the car still looks and runs great!!! All my life I have bought cars that way and am streets ahead for it!!! When people finally understand that the brand new bling stuff really doesn’t mean anything, we might actually start moving forward as a society!!!

It is with good intent…….. but there are those who would throw the socks in with the towels.

We have to be nice to MGB he may have a nice MGB lucky him, back them i started with a 2 door Ford Anglia.
MGB may have a problem with my comments,it is about that “choice” that we all make through out our lives.

If you only knew what i did for a living as a servant to the public.

        I have seen it all.

Life is one sacrifice after another and i see that you have made a few.

You did what you thought would be best suited for you and I respect and admire you for that, many of us have come along a rocky road and the school of hard knocks, however, there are those who think the world owes them a living.

That word choice keeps coming up no matter what we or others do .

There is nothing wrong with a guy who by choice makes a honest living. Living is spelt ” Hard Work ” by riding on the back of a trash truck in the rain.

Did you hear about the guy who resides in the Asylum because he is down to his last million ?

I am glad I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth,I an the son of a workman, I had to learn how to fix things,I can build a house with my eyes closed and there fore my choice was to invest in land Bermuda which is commonly referred to Real Estate which could be considered by some as a risky business especially if you bite off more than you can chew and you can’t pay the loan or mortgage.

  3. Nuffin but da Truth says:

so long as you change the Timing Belt often and do regular Oil n Filter changes these Kia’s are quite reliable.
Forget to do that and you are in DEEP Trouble with your Kia.

    Good Morning MGB

It is not my intention to use Bernews as a debating Media however you say ” and your point is……”.

There are 11 paragraphs in my memorandum of January,17 2014 at 9.52 AM each paragraph contains a point or lessons in life if you will.
Which points are you have difficulty with ? or are you just trying to “stir the pot”!

You do have a choice !

  5. The Skink says:

@JUNKYARD DOG: I so wish that more Bermudians would realize that a car depreciates much quicker than a house. Deferred gratification is not an attractive option but it brings peace of mind later on. Junkyard, you chose the road less travelled and it has made the difference.
