Man Charged: Sexually Touching Young Teens

January 23, 2014

A 34 year old man appeared in Magistrates Court this morning [Jan 23] where he faced charged involving sexually exploiting young teenagers.

The man — who cannot be named at this stage for legal reasons — faced five counts involving sexual touching while in a position of trust and unlawful carnal knowledge.

The Court heard the victims in their early teens and the offences are alleged to have commenced as early as September 2010 and to have continued up to September 2013.

Because the charges are indictable and can only be heard in the Supreme Court, he was not required to enter a plea.

The defendant was granted $25,000 bail with one surety and also ordered to surrender his travel documents, not leave Bermuda, and also ordered to stay away from and not contact any witnesses or complainants.

  1. bull crap says:

why is it that these sex offenders could neva be named that’s why I flew my kids outta that crazy island because of bull crap like THIS I DONT THINK THAT IT IS RITE THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT BEING NAMED BERMUDA IS TOO SMALL FOR THIS TYPE OF STUFF …. IM JUST SAYING U NAME THE MURDERERS AND DRUG DEALERS BUT QUICK TO DEFEND AND HIDE THE SEX OFFENDERS IM SOO PISSED OPFF AND HES MY AGE I PROBABLY KNOW HIM SMH AT U ….

    • Smh says:

That’s y you sent your kids away? Really? That law was put there initially to protect the victims’ identity. Unfortunately the sex offender’s gets protected too it’s a shame but the law is the law and we all have to abide by it until it is changed. So many times are victims sexually assaulted by family members that if the offenders named was published people could just put 2 and 2 together and run their mouths.

And yes Bermuda is too small, I had a friend that was molested back in the day and everyone in school knew about it before it even hit the courts. I can bet you any money that even though this offender is not being named there’s a bunch of people already got his name and trying to figure out who the victim is (if they don’t already know).

I do believe a sex offender registry should be made though and all convicted offenders should be put on it once they are released from prison.

  2. bull crap says:

WHERE I AM THEY DO HAVE SEX OFFENDERS …..BUT THEY ARE NAMED …..THANK YOU THERE EVERYWHERE BUT ONLY BERMUDA THEY CAN NOT BE NAMED SMH

    • Cooper Stevenson says:

Sex offenders are only named if convicted. From the tone of your comment, you have already decided on this man’s guilt, which further proves the need to protect the identity of someone accused of a sex crime against a minor.

    • crackattack says:

yeah….I don’t really want to live in a country where my name can be plastered all over the media for simply being accused of sexual assault. If you do, then more power too ya. Let me help you pack your bags

  3. Hmmm... says:

So when is the sex offender registry coming? I find it ridiculous that this pervert cannot legally be named. Parents, kids, and teens need to be AWARE of such threats so they can AVOID them.

    • Palm Tree says:

I agree that a register should be made available, but that would be for individuals found guilty. To assume guilt with little to no knowledge does not make sense; let the courts decide on this individual’s culpability first.

  4. Question says:

What is with you two a$$ clowns above? No person in this country or any other country can be named for a crime UNTIL THEY ARE CONVICTED?!!?!!!

I fully agree that Bermuda needs a sexual offenders registry – pronto!! But it should be comprised of persons who have been convicted of a sexual offence – not those who are accused.

    Q

    • Darwin's Child says:

Wrong. The UK papers are full of named alleged sexual offenders at the moment. The victims are afforded anonymity but the alleged perpetrator is not unless it is a family member that may identify the victim,

That said, I do see the value of not naming the defendant on an island this small unless a guilty verdict is reached. Mud sticks

  5. swing voter says:

the guy hasn’t been convicted yet…but yeah we should have a registry for convicted dirdy old bastids!

  6. terry says:

    Hmmm and Bull crap…………
The man has not gone to trial nor convicted of anything.

Would you like your name all over the net/TV/News Papers because of an allegation?

Just imagine if Bernews used your ISP to publish your name.

These cases differ and try and protect the abused.

If found guilty, burn his ass.
    Shalom.

    (awaits 400 dislikes).

    • katy perry is my spirit animal says:

Exactly! And can you imagine if someone, prior to a conviction, was named and labelled a sex offender and then later found innocent?? The damage would already be done!! Guilt needs to be proven before name disclosures for this very reason. I don’t know if this man is innocent or guilty. However, being unjustly accused of sex offences can ruin lives.

      terry you raise excellent points!!

  7. Ganja mon says:

how the hell do they give these losers bail? Only in Bermuda. I bet the guy in court for small drug posession got remanded in custody…BS

  8. OKAYMAN says:

For an island of our size there are way TOO many stories of this ilk! For a religous island we seem to lack moral fibre. By thoughts go to the children who are valiantly standing up for themselves and the families who are supporting them .

  9. There's a reason says:

The reason these sex offenders are not initially named when they appear in Court is to protect the identity of the victims!! So many of these sex offenders are relatives of the victims and once you name the offender, the victim is identifiable. These are teenager girls. I wouldn’t want my teenager identified in a situation such as this.

    • Kangoocar says:

Very well said!! But it sure is frustrating to all normal people, that these types live amongst us!!!

  10. Keepin' it Real...4Real! says:

jus puttin this out there…for all of you who want ACCUSED persons to be named before they are CONVICTED…there are some fathers, brothers, cousins out there that will NOT hesitate to ELIMINATE…better hope you never get wrongly ACCUSED…im jus sayin.

  11. X man says:

NAME THE MONSTER ———— show his face –
You might as well — were going to find out anyway ” this is Bermuda!

  12. Concerned Parent says:

I’m just curious as to how many ACCUSED persons have been found NOT GUITLY?

    • katy perry is my spirit animal says:

If you’re insinuating that anyone who has ever been accused of a crime is guilty you need to read up on the rate of wrongful incarcerations.

  13. why why why says:

there is a Face Book Page with Convicted Sex offenders but there
names should not be released til after they are Found Guilty ! Bermuda is way too Small.
