  1. me says:

it looks really bad, i hope everyone is ok. Slow down Bermuda!

    • Ganja mon says:

There goes another sport city..tbh those bikes are too fast for half the ppl that have bought them.

  2. Kathy S. says:

    Mercy!! Please slow down. UGH

  3. Serious Though says:

Do still need over 80cc bikes?

    • James Herald says:

Don’t blame the size of the bike. Harley 1200s would be safe in Bermuda if ridden by responsible people. It is 100% the riders who are irresponsible.

There are cars in Bermuda that will do in excess of 130 MPH but you don’t hear people saying they shouldn’t be allowed do you?

      • James Herald says:

In fact the BMW Z4 with the 2.5 engine(of which there are quite a few in Bda) is listed as having a top speed of 141 MPH.

      • Mile High Club says:

Yes, you are correct. However, the question was do we NEED bikes over 80cc? The answer is no.

Yes a Harley 1200cc would be safe in the hands of a responsible person but why would you NEED 1200ccs in Bermuda? No highways, not towing large loads!? There is NO need whatsoever for anything over 80cc. There is a want, not a NEED.

The job of a government if to sometimes go against the wants of many to protect the few that may have a moment of irresponsibility. We all have temporary lapses in judgment.

        • WTH says:

The size of a bikes engine also has to do with where it’s been made and the type of terrains in that area. But could you image a 250lbs man on a 50cc going up a hill!? Hope you’re not in a hurry.

        • Please think says:

It’s not about speed. If bikes weren’t over 80cc that means they would all be two strokes, which are barely manufactured as street bikes anymore (btw a kitted 2 stroke would be much faster than any of these bikes anyways). Any 4stroke less than 100cc has basically 0 power and will barely make it ups hills, good luck having a passenger. 150cc is the ideal engine capacity limit for Bermuda’s roads. It is practical as you can have 4 stroke engines, which are much more fuel efficient and environment friendly and you also have the engine power to carry a passenger, something that is for essential for almost everyone, especially parents who need to transport their children or other friends/family. No matter what the law is on engine capacity, Bermudians will always find a way to go fast – it has nothing to do with the bikes, but the riders (it’s basically tradition). It’s all about practicality.

  4. It really looks bad and I hope the injuries are non life threatening, people need to slow the hell down.death don’t fear no one and these roads feel nothing, when and what will it take for some to get it.

  5. Did itB4 Others says:

Damn I hope it looks worst then it actually is..hope everyone involved is ok.

  6. Joanne says:

My heart goes out to the firemen, paramedics, Police, Doctors and nurses and who have to see the severe injuries and death every day now. They deserve huge recognition for what they do in trying to save lives as a result of road “accidents”. I believe it’s only going to get worse as cars are now overtaking on blind corners and bends at high rates of speed, along with the bikes and look what’s happening??? Only way to stop it is for everyone to take responsibility and SLOW down! Get the police (or Bermuda Army) out on the roads in clear view of the public (even if only as a deterrent)? If there aren’t enough Police, let’s start using our Army to help?

  7. Unbelievable says:

Always someone cutting that corner. Also the corner just past the Aquarium, just before this corner. People need to understand that the yellow line is there for a reason. Please people, stay on your side of the yellow line.

    Sure hope all are ok.

    • Maddog says:

We see it every day, bikes passing on the inside, on the outside, passing over yellow lines, on blind corners, and it’s not just the “young men” either. I see children on the back of bikes, almost getting their little legs smashed because the irresponsible grown up riding the bike is weaving in and out of traffic. Do you have any idea how close their legs are to the cars and walls? PLEASE STOP IT…. ALL OF IT.

      • sonso says:

i agree, people seem to be in a rush to go nowhere, now-a-days!

    • me says:

Someone struck my car on that corner just past the aquarium just before this corner 2 weeks ago !!! Slow Down Bermuda !!!

    • sigh says:

It is always the suvs taxies and the tiny cars that are always over the line.

      • SUV Owner says:

Has nothing to do with being a SUV taxi or tiny car. It is the irresponsible behavior of the driver regardless of what vehicle they are driving.

    • Kangoocar says:

Totally agree with you, but one really has to question the intelligence of those that hit the diss agree button??

      • Ann says:

I have been wondering too! The dislike button is being abused. Sad situations, some idiots are hitting the button! They hit the button no matter what!

        #retards

        • Agree says:

We’ve all been wondering because there’s nothing to dislike. People can be real idiots #getalife

          • SUV Owner says:

You can dislike something if it is not based on fact but rather a preconceived prejudice

            • Dhameer says:

We know too well that preconceived prejudice is an art form of the highest order in these lovely isles.Blessed be the healing of the injured!

              • Theresa T says:

Funny how many people are disliking you disliking their dislikes!! So silly, I think all points are valid………heck knows why people disliking them!!!Go figure!!

    • Next says:

Yup. People act a fool and speed around that corner. It’s out of hand.

    • ABM says:

And you know this happened here as a fact how?

  8. Wtf says:

    2 sports city ? Hummmm

  9. Mike Hind says:

Does it really bother folks that much?
Like, in the grand scheme of things, does a dislike click really matter?
If so, thank your lucky stars that THAT is something that’s important.

    • Kangoocar says:

Yes it actually does!! These are the same people that vote at election time!! And you really are not concerned with their actions??? Come on Hind???

    • sonso says:

      what you talking about willis?

    • Wally Sittur says:

Both bikes are known for being fast and a lot of the people who own them have oversized motors on them… so ya it does matter and pointing that fact out is relevant.

  10. Smh says:

    Hoping everyone involved is okay,
however speed kills and when irresponsible people speed and overtake on Bermuda’s roads what do you expect? It’s not only the young people but the adults as well there have been way too many fatalities on our roads! Please so down! The speed is unnecessary!

  11. Triangle Drifter says:

The pleading to slow down is not going to work. Not as long as highway speed capable vehicles are available.

Imagine going to small slow vehicles. Imagine being able to have 2 of these vehicles per household INSTEAD of a car. It would not work for all but it would be a viable option for some. Slower vehicles in the road mix would slow everyone down. Might even stop some of these utility poles & trees from leaping into the road.

    • Whistling Frog says:

Speed doesn’t kill, it’s the sudden impact that does the damage… Even a blow to the body with just your fist, knee, elbow or even your forehead can cause great damage to a persons body. There was a man who died riding a peddle bike sometime ago on Palmetto Rd, no speed involved, but it shows you that people are not paying attention…
People have to be more responsible and look out for others. A little common sense and paying attention to other road users and pedestrians would make things a lot safer and we won’t see any of these serious encounters…

      • Frank'N'Onions says:

I think speed does kill. With a combined (estimated) speed of 100+ kph between the vehicles in opposite directions, the chances of serious injuries from a cycle accident are pretty high. Even at the speed limit of 35kph, there are lots of solid obstacles to hit, slide into or fall over.

Unless you are a bicycle racer or a boxer, falling from a push bike or taking a punch from a fight albeit unpleasant has relatively little chance of serious injury except in extreme / freak circumstances.

You can’t ask people to be “more careful” because there is always going to be someone who ignores the rules by passing in an unsafe manner or using a cellphone while driving (just to name a couple examples).

Short of random enforcement, speed traps and serious consequences to flagrant violations, things aren’t going to change. The average person on the street doesn’t care beyond their own needs. My drive into work is 10 minutes and EVERY DAY I have people passing in an unsafe manner at speeds in excess of 60kph. For such a small sample of the island it’s no wonder that there are people getting injured on an almost daily basis.

    • Johnboy says:

Imagine if nothing over 50cc was allowed. We might see less accidents as well. Although, it would be harder to “make the nip” with less power.

      • turtle says:

I guess you never studied Physic and Momentum!

        • Triangle Drifter says:

I guess not. 500cc stops just as fast when it runs into something hard as 50cc.

    • walls says:

It’s not speed, cops speed all the time yet they for the most part don’t slam into walls on a regular basis.

It is poor and stupid driving that causes these accidents. Yesterday I watched a guy run lights on a 50cc, today another who hopped the sidewalk and drove down it for 100 yards to jump back off to avoid the lights.

Certain types of bikes appeal to riders with poor decision making, the Sport City being one of them! Will be interesting to see who is found to blame.

  12. Billy Mays says:

What makes people assume that speed is the primary reason for this crash? It appears that the bikes were driving side by side, which is stupid, and one cut the corner hitting the oncoming car, which pushed that bike into the other. In this scenario, speed would be largely irrelevant. The issue is stupidity, irresponsibility. When people drive their bikes stupidly, whether it’s too fast, side by side, tail-gating, wheelies, etc., there’s a decent chance it will not end well for the moron driving.
Best idea, when driving a vehicle that does not provide the driver with any real protection, is to keep your head out of your backside and drive sensibly and even courteously. Give it a shot. The life that’s saved may be your own.

  13. swing voter says:

gimme a spliff a elifant anna 150cc honda/yamaha to go nowhere fast….tellin dees lil bies to slow down is a waste of time

  14. Truth is killin' me... says:

Ignorance can kill…jump out of a plane without a parachute and see what happens!

  15. JUNK YARD DOG says:

Again, I wonder if the car will get blamed for that one.

When you get a group of individuals who have absolutely no regard for the laws of the land you get …………….. !

What is the speed limit any way ?

    Is it what ever ?

  16. Boo says:

Traffic was backed up past 7 o’ clock!

  17. JUNK YARD DOG says:

That particular corner near the Aquarium is a difficult stretch of road to negotiate be it car or bike.

Bermuda roads came into being from the Horse and Buggy days, consequently what you get in some instances are what is I call “Double Corners” unfortunately there are lots of “Double Corners” here.

Be mindful that there are no two corners alike.

The W&E Roads Engineers don’t have a “Magic Wand”they are doing their best to up grade our roads as I am confident that they know the condition of our roads and exactly how many “Double Corners” are all located, unfortunately road improvements like you see at going on at Paget traffic lights takes time a money, invariably a home owners will have to part with some land.

While riding a bike and changing direction twice on a corner or avoiding obstacles could end up in disaster, even if one is driving with in the law.

Riding any bike in a straight line the bike is in balance changing direction alters that balance in fact throws it off and invariably the front wheel will loose traction regardless of speed, improper use of the front brake will also cause loss of traction and the bike “lets Go “!

    • Triangle Drifter says:

The motor vehicle has been on Bermuda roads for near 70 years. In that time the PWD/W&E has done little to upgrade roads. Sightlines at intersections are terrible. Corners are of varying radii. Nothing is banked to make a corner safer without having to widen the road. Placement of many of the lights in Hamilton is as if some child decided where to put what.

For a bunch of people who travel the world we sure don’t learn much from the world.

  18. Concerned Cyclist says:

Its very sad that this accident happened, especially on that corner. There has been too many invidiuals racing each other on our roads which are totally different from back in the day when our parents used to “pack race”. I always see people racing trying to see who can go the fastest or reach a destination first. Unfortunately, that was not the case this time. I hope these boys have learned from this and others on our roads as well.

Its a different age now with more traffic to be aware of and like many of you have said, we all need to slow down and pay attention to the other drivers on the roads.

  19. hmm says:

What jacka** keeps pressing “dislike” in every article! grow the f*** up!

  20. JUNK YARD DOG says:

There is a road located high up in the Appalachian mountain chain in North Carolina / Tennesee which has 110 corners along its 11 mile length ,it is called ” The Dragon “. or US 129. “The Dragon ” is natures roller coaster.

I have never ridden on ” The Dragon ” on our Motorcycle and it is not my intention to do so, because ,it has more “S” turns and switch backs than you can possibly imagine and for want of a better description one could consider the road to be down right dangerous.

Not so ! roads are not dangerous It the irresponsible careless people riding on them is where the danger rests.

The other fascinating things about ” The Dragon” there is a tree located at the beginning of this road which is decorated not with Christmas lights but with motorcycle parts, you will also find motorcycle wreckage down in the gullies left there by those “Mad Max” “King of the road” types who thought that they could cheat death.
I problem as I see it is that it not the size of the motorcycle that is the problem as it is up to the person riding it to ride with responsibility and due care. “The Dragon” always wins.
