Video: Fire Officers Receive NFPA Certification
The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service yesterday [Jan 30] honored 24 members from their department for successfully completing the NFPA Level 1 Instructors Training Course. Minister of National Security Michael Dunkley was on hand to present the certificates and he congratulated each officer on their accomplishment.
“This initiative was facilitated by flying an Instructor from the Dallas Forth Worth Fire Training Research Center to Bermuda in an effort to reduce the cost while providing training to the members”, a Ministry spokesperson said.
“The purpose of the training is to prepare experienced firefighters with the requirements under the NFPA 1041 guidelines.
“A person certified as a Fire Instructor 1 will have demonstrated the ability to perform at the first level of progression as a fire service instructor.
“There were also two firefighters being recognized for their successful completion of a High Volume Pumping Instructor’s Course in the United Kingdom at the Fire Service College. They also attended a driving instructor’s course at the Cheshire Fire Service in the United Kingdom.
“Sergeants De-Roy Somner and Raymond Masters both traveled overseas to participate in an extensive driver training instructors course designed to provide instruction for local fire personnel on both standard and emergency response driving”.
The Chief Fire Officer Lloyd Burchall said, “This is part of the succession planning to ensure that the fire service has capable and skilled fire operations for the future.”
Congratulations, ladies and gentlemen. You are some of Bermuda’s finest.
Congrats to you all, especially to Sgt. Somner
