that is the second time i heard someone losing their life there in a bike accident.
my prayers go out to the family and friends.

    • Herb Adderley says:

I think this is the fourth time someone has been killed there, its a very dangerous spot when you loose control of your bike. Thank heaven there was no-one in the bus stop.

      My condolences to the family

      • SMDH says:

they need to take them lines off the road jus before the corner… any little bit of wetness makes them lines slippery!

        • trees says:

The yellow rumble strips there are dangerous in the wet as are the ones but Gov House and on Berry Hill road. Riding a scooter with small wheels cause the bike to skip then slide and is very dangerous. Never know if perhaps this happened and caught the rider off guard.

        • trees says:

          • Triangle Drifter says:

Not contesting the danger of the rumble strips but the bus stop is an awful long way past the rumble strips.

The whole area needs a re engineering from Corkscrew to Trimingham Hill.

            • trees says:

it is a fair way past, but with a down hill grade and with the new oily asphalt that was laid just after the strips would be like ice in the wet. Once the bike gets sliding could be difficult to slow down and gain control for a less experience rider. The guys from Coney Island and Southside might be fine, but those with less skills could be in trouble!

        • Agree says:

Wth is there to dislike about the comment tho

        • Hurricane says:

@ SMDH, I’m not a fan of “them” lines either, but do you really think that removing them would stop the road deaths? I think not. I have been riding and driving that route for years as have thousands of others. The problem is not the roads but rather, how we use them. SLOW DOWN BERMUDA!

      • Paul says:

I wonder why no one has dealt with this accident spot(death trap)I hope no one gets sued over this travisty. FIX IT .

    • sad says:

      Third to be exact

      • Hot Cross Buns says:

The pavement there tilts one way and the road turns another. Needs to be fixed.

    • mixitup says:

It’s been at least 4 fatalities at that exact location.

      • adam says:

I beleive this is actually the 13th death at that location in the last decade.

    • Agreeable says:

I agree, those lines are extremely dangerous, or very hazardous just as the same goes with these so called speed bumps. There has been numerous accidents but no fatalities yet with these but they sure has spun some vehicles out of control, especially those on Harrington Sound Road. The government is getting extremely out of control with these things. Its like driving down I95 highway with a bump going across the highway and think what would happen. I think the decision and idea of putting these things in the road is absolute stupid and ridiculous. Get rid of them Pam Pamplin & W&E!
      Accidents waiting to happen.

      • ole Onion says:

Yes condolences to the families of road fatalities !
The current way of govt W/E , PWD ? Jus putting up speed bumps in the roads is crazy ! They have no standardized process of size and signage where implemented !
Those vehicle killing washboarde strips break up your car ! They are warning strips not speed bumps!!! They should be 20yards before a speed bump in the road !
I wonder how who the unmasterminds allowed such stupidity to take place!!
First Co. Of Hamilton started the B/S with no regulations . Just trial n error . How dumb were they . How many people did they injure/cause damages ? Same goes for Govt ! Just wasted $$$ ??? Don’t each have engineers employed ? can somebody tell me the solution?????????
        P.S. I could be a consultant for a lot less $$ & I’m friends n family born & bred Bermudian!

  5. suny says:

    whats with that deadly bus-stop???

    • SMDH says:

they need to take them lines off the road jus before the corner

      • trees says:

The yellow rumble strips there are dangerous in the wet as are the ones but Gov House and on Berry Hill road. Riding a scooter with small wheels cause the bike to skip then slide and is very dangerous. Never know if perhaps this happened and caught the rider off guard.

      • Question says:

Those “lines” as you put them do not have anything to do with the collisions in this area.

  6. Raymond Ray says:

My condolence go out to the family as well. But if I’m not mistaken, didn’t someone else die or collided in the very same spot not too long ago?

    • Herb Adderley says:

Raymond Ray, do you not read the posts that are ahead of yours?

      • Dockyard Lackey says:

Mr Ray’s post is timed at 7.14am, well before the other responses regarding the total number of times fatal accidents have been reported at this location.

      • PettyBDAthinking says:

Well its apparent that he didnt read the previous comments, but you HAD to make this an issue right?! Some people I tell you….you don’t allllways have to ba a d!@#he@d Herman.

  7. Sad News says:

  9. Scoalsy says:

A place to patrol and have your Radar is the stretch at Mermaid beaches in Warwick going West, for some reason they HAVE to overtake and speed there, including buses trailer trucks etc :(

    • PettyBDAthinking says:

Scoalsy can we stick to the topic at hand please. A.D.D. this not about mermaid beach patrols….write a letter to the editor, with these concerns. We are talking about Crow Lane. Frequent accident spot. Nobody has ever died at mermaid beach mann come on. Get back on track. Lol

  10. Blessed to be here ... says:

Camera’s in place pleasssseeeeeeeeee eg. Orange Valley Road, Causeway, Bridges etc…

  11. Oh no says:

Condolences to his family and friends.

  12. March Hare says:

My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

This bend in the road – a right hand curve, is a particularly dangerous stretch of road and there have been numerous accidents over the years. It is a right curve with an ‘adverse camber’, which means as you a steering right, the road is ‘leaning’ left making it more difficult to negociate the bend. This means it has to be entered at a much slower speed than a similar bend with a favourable camber.

The Highways deptartment knows this, and has taken a number of measures to bring this to road users’ attention. There is a warning triangle, there are raised yellow lines on the approach, along with ‘slow’ painted on the road. Works and Engineering undertook a project to ‘soften’ the bend a few years ago by moving some concrete pillars back and lowering the sidewalk by Corkscrew Hill.

I would echo Mr Caines’ sentiments about speed. Even if you don’t care for your own safety, think about your family and friends who may be left to grieve. The sleepless nights thinking about you and what you might be doing now, the family occasions where there’s an empty seat, the hollow feeling in their stomach everytime something reminds them of you. That right hand on the throttle has the power to avoid all of this.

    Slow down, be safe.

  13. Bermuda boy says:

My condolences to the family. Bermuda, slow down and live.

  14. Common cent$ says:

It’s is very sad. People please slow down. Thu need to seriously start enforcing the law on drivers- not that this case has been fully determined to be the cause yet. Just the way cars were driving during the recent flooding-made already dangerous conditions for bike riders even worse. Cars need to slow down! Especially during oncoming bike traffic!

  15. George says:

More like sixth or seventh person who has died on that section of road over the years since the creation of East Broadway into a two lane “highway”. It is well known by the Road Safety Council, Government Highway Engineers and the Police as a frequent accident spot. This is why they redesigned the bend recently to try and reduce the chances of vehicles misjudging the turn and ending up in the wall or bus stop in this case. Unfortunately for many of those who have died the blame has been apportioned to them being under the influence. This does not negate the fact that a major contributor to the accident in the first place is the poor design of the road!Time to address the problem once and for all so no one else dies!

  16. Lottie Williams says:

My heart goes out to the family .God will help you through this .Just asked him for help. Keeping you in our prayers.

  17. Prayerful says:

My condolences to the family as well. However, was the driver not travelling south, not east?

  18. Linda Wales says:

So very sad. My condolences to his family and friends.

  19. SERZ TALK says:

    Condolences to the family.

Clearly dangerous as that exact turn has caused the death of 4 people and many more have crashed there.

  20. JUNK YARD DOG says:

My profound condolences to all the families who have lost love ones on our Bermuda roads.

I am Confident that this recent tragic loss will be thoroughly investigated by the police, who, I might add ,require every thread of evidence to help with their findings.

We all have moral obligation to help one another and that also includes our Police service,Bermuda’s reputation as a safe destination is on the line.

Appropriating blame will not bring any of them back, cause and effect may prevent or reduce future road tragedies, unfortunately there will be more as it is just a question of when.

I have been riding motorcycles for many years and I full well realize that accidental death or maiming for life can happen in a micro second and for hundreds of reasons, do not look away not even for a second.

Riding a motorcycle is all about managing risk.

Being able to for see and avoid disastrous situations day or night is an absolute requirement also being able to control a motor cycle is equally important.

Concentration go to the top of the list, being impaired in one way or another has its consequences.

The art of riding a motorcycle requires a person to have a clear mind by leave your problems on the door step, control anger; road rage and frustration , maintain your composure and most of all be in command and stop tailgating.

Motorcycling on Bermuda roads is not exactly recreational Sport , it is a re- creation and a celebration of freedom which comes with responsibility.

  21. Dinosaurmedia says:

Very sad that this continues to be a place where this happens – so sad for friends and family.

I’ll just say this. I know a paramedic…he told me the number of deaths at that spot number closer to a dozen going back to the late eighties…

  22. trees says:

Many people have been killed there, usually late at night. It is the first real corner, but not a dangerous one if you are paying attention. The yellow rumble strips there are dangerous in the wet as are the ones but Gov House and on Berry Hill road. Riding a scooter with small wheels cause the bike to skip then slide and is very dangerous. Never know if perhaps this happened and caught the rider off guard.

  23. Big Burt says:

Head chef at Latin / Victoria Grill. Was very talented! Sad news.

  24. Citizen Banned says:

    Slow down Bermuda.

  25. Will says:

I worked with this guy. He was a kind and energetic man always making me laugh and able to light a fire under someones a** to get them working. He will be missed very greatly. RIP

  26. Werner says:

Road bends to right, slopes away to left, to meet grade from corkscrew hill.
Gate, traffic light pole, and the bus stop itself in the appex off the turn.
Any small mistake, oil, sand, etc…. has horrific consequences.
Not even mentioning speeding, drinking etc…
The road needs to be graded the other way,
the gate relocated, the traffic light pole moved behind the wall, the wall redesigned and the bus stop moved down the road by 20 feet.
Yes it will be inconvenient to the motoring traffic having construction on the main road out of town.
Yes, The land owner might not like the idea of giving up some property… They need to be reimbursed for it.
The construction will cost a fair bit of money but there have been way to many accidents in this same spot.
One would think that the road safety council would be all over this one.

  27. JUNK YARD DOG says:

Yellow ripple speed strips don’t work and neither do elevated speed bumps, they actually cause drivers to loose control, it is the same as pot holes, ruts , gouges, elevated man hole covers, road trenches, patches, poor drainage not to mention oily and sandy roads.

    It is called infrastructure people.

How many more people have to die or get maimed for life on some of our roads?

Can’t blame people for buying a SUV!

Crow Lane Bakery Building should have gone up for compulsory land purchase years ago for the common good.

Paget traffic light property where there are hours lost time and the potential lost of wages for 9,999 drivers who wait bumper to bumper line for up to 20 minutes each way twice a day, you are looking at $33,000+++ in lost time per day which creates no end of frustration for the driving public.

Two roads leading to one both ways is archaic.

The Tourist road, King Henry to the Lighthouse with a non existent side walk had not seen re- surfacing in over 55 years.

We are “Playing the game of Chicken” with trucks and buses for the lack of a centering line in many locations, after dark its is the “game of sudden death”.

  28. Truth is killin' me... says:

Radar needs to be out EVERYWHERE PERIOD…with the lawbreakers that I see on the roads daily!!

  29. me says:

So sad to hear this news. What an amazing person, chef and golfer. I will always remember him with the greatest of memories.

  30. PettyBDAthinking says:

My condolences go out to the family and friends of this man..always gone too soon. May you be comforted in this time of grief.. The numerous accidents at this same spot shows there is a problem. Publics Works Department are supposed to have engineers that assess the grades in the roads and and in frequent accident spots like this are supposed to be able to at least attempt to resolve the reason why there are so many accidents/fatalities there. The road at this location is graded so that while moving at a certain speed you automatically drift toward this bus stop. This is yet another area where the “professionals” or “Consultants” are getting paid to make poor choices which ultimately affect the people of Bermuda. Bda goverment is the epitome of this. Try working FOr THE PEOPLE(coumtry as a whole), NOT JUST YOUR PEOPLE(family and friends)…..sooo tired of this mentality!! No man is an island…No man stands alone..Come on and wake up Bermuda.. lets get it together and do our part, everyone one of us..Amen

  31. Mr. Meoff says:

Im not saying that this is the case in this fatality but you have a long stretch from the gas station to that corner just below Cork Screw Hill, begging you to test your speed at a time when little traffic is on the road, on a motor cycle or car for that matter, you catch that rumble strip, sets you vehicle off line, that corner drops away to the left and away from your intended direction. The result is that the side walk will catch you first followed by the bus stop.
So sorry to hear that yet another life has been lost there. May he rest in peace.

  32. C says:

I agree with the above. Remove the lines. Put them further back if it’s felt they are needed. That us a crazy corner. Do we need such a big bustop there. My prayers are with his family

  33. BermudaGirl says:

So sorry. My condolences to the family.

  34. Ruthless says:

The yellow lines may not be the cause in this instance but I continue to ask how can Any Government put bumpy line in the road just as you are beginning to lay into a corner! The lines on Berry Hill rd are even more dangerous! I know that if I get in an accident there I will taken someone to court!

  35. Reality Check says:

HOw is i if it is the fault of the road surface and the lines, that the hundreds of bikes that travel that corner there every single day manage to do it fine but that the “accidents” always seem to happen late at night? maybe the issue should be less concern for the surface and the lines that are there to remind you to slow down as it should be placed on the person? i do feel sorry for the family but lets get real here people if it were really the road that was a problem there would be a lot more accidents everyday, at times other than late at night.

  36. Triangle Drifter says:

The crashes in the area go way back to the early 60s when Trimingham Hill Rd was created. Recall a friend who got killed going south around the roundabout. The police were in hot persuit. He struck the sidewalk & was catapulted headfirst into one of the trees behind the wall.

Yes, it was his own fault. Speed, drunk/high, late at night, youthful stupidity, refusing to stop for police. Besides all of that the whole thing is poorly designed. He is not the only one to die or be seriously hurt in the area.

  37. Peace be upon you Tomaz,

As I’m quite sure that the Ancestors have welcomed you with open arms & all the best to you as you have made your transition to join them in the ranks of the eternal spiritual realm.

And to your family & love ones, may your spirit provide everyone with guidance & protection.
