Bermuda Homes Could Be Promoted In Sweden

February 19, 2014

Luxury homes available to international purchasers in Bermuda could soon be promoted in alternative markets such as Sweden through new initiatives being explored by one of the island’s leading realtors.

Michael Valdes, Sotheby’s International Realty Managing Director, International Servicing for Latin America, Caribbean and Bermuda region, also believes Bermuda’s luxury properties have the potential to be marketed like a membership to an exclusive club.

Mr. Valdes was on a whistle-stop visit to the island while meeting with the team at Rego Sotheby’s International Realty and viewing some of the homes the firm currently has listed.

“I looked at a property selling for $19.5 million. I think that is amazing value if you compare it to other parts of the world. You can market that to areas that do not know Bermuda,” said Mr. Valdes.

“Bermuda is still a great place with great value for money. You can sell home ownership like the membership of an exclusive club whose members already include the likes of Michael Bloomberg and Ross Perot,” he added.

Next month, Sotheby’s International Realty [SIR] hosts their annual Leadership Forum for owners, managers, and key leadership personnel from the SIR network. Buddy Rego, President of Rego Sotheby’s International Realty, will attend the event – a key networking opportunity for Bermuda within feeder markets, along with Executive Vice President Penny MacIntyre, and Mr. Valdes.

Mr. Valdes added, “When a person reaches retirement age in Sweden, the government offers them an incentive to leave the country as an option. It’s an opportunity to propose Bermuda in a place where is has not really been marketed before.”

Buddy Rego, President of Rego SIR, said he was delighted to show Mr. Valdes, who has just taken up his post, around Bermuda.

I just watched a show where two resort managers bought a secluded, unspoiled island in Fiji called Yasawa, 18 square miles, eight private beaches, including a 1 km long, white sand beachfront in front of a well appointed, 5 star, turn key spa and 18 luxury bungalo resort, for $18 million, I’m just saying. Our seniors would benefit from an “incentive” to leave the country as an option as well, since it’s too expensive for many of them here, unfortunately our government and the Swedish government take care of the elders differently.
