Elephant Unveiled As New Hospital Mascot
The Bermuda Hospitals Board [BHB] today introduces its mascot, Eddie the Elephant. Named after King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, the elephant will be used to help educate the public on the departments moving to the new Acute Care Wing in September.
Eddie will visit schools and in the coming months you may even meet him on the street in special educational promotions.
An elephant was chosen as the hospital’s mascot because it is a symbol of strength, stability and long life.
“Our Public Relations Department listed ten advantages elephants possess that would aid various health promotions,” said BHB CEO Venetta Symonds. “Three are strength, stability and long life. If you can guess the remaining seven, send your response to our Public Relations Department for the chance to get your photo taken with Eddie.”

How insulting. BHB needs to inform the public of what exactly they are doing about improving healthcare using big boy words. Not a pretend doctor in an elephant costume. Tell us how outcomes have improved. How staff has been performing. Fancy new buildings do NOT improve healthcare. Healthcare professionals do that.
All Of the Nurses at K.E.M.H. are highly trained dedicated professionals and there are no words good enough express my sincere appreciation to all those very special people for the care and sacrifice given by them . I live to tell my story.
