KEMH: Edmund Gibbons Ltd Donates $500,000

Edmund Gibbons Limited announced the donation of $500,000 to the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust – a non-profit organization whose goal is to raise $40m for the King Edward Memorial Hospital redevelopment fundraising campaign.

Edmund Gibbons was an entrepreneur who began a successful business venture which evolved into Gibbons Company. Gibbons Company was eventually incorporated and the holding company – Edmund Gibbons Limited – was established.

Mr. Gibbons’ wife, Winifred, dedicated her life’s work to philanthropic and charitable efforts while serving 25 years as Deputy Chairman of the Hospitals Board.

“I know that this contribution will help honor my mother’s commitment to healthcare in Bermuda, as well as my father’s dedication to Bermudian entrepreneurship and business development,” said Sir David Gibbons, CEO of Edmund Gibbons Limited and son of Edmund and Winifred Gibbons.

“It is an honor to make a donation that will help the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust develop a world-class medical facility.”

Edmund Gibbons Limited remains a family-owned entity comprised of several independently owned businesses including Gibbons Company, Colonial Insurance, Bermuda Motors and Burrows Lightbourn and a minority owner of Capital G Bank Limited.

    A huge thankyou to the Gibbons family. I suspect that this is not the first substantial donation for the public good. A number of established Bermuda families have made substantial donations in cash & property to the people of Bermuda, often with little thanks or appreciation shown by some quarters.
