Power Outage Affects Hamilton Businesses

[Updated] A limited power outage in Hamilton has caused some businesses to lose electricity, however BELCO is already in the process of resolving the problem.

A BELCO spokesperson said, “At approximately 10.15am today, an outage occurred in Hamilton, affecting 13 commercial customers on Front Street between Queen Street and Burnaby Hill.

“A BELCO underground crew is working to identify the problem and restore power. We will keep the public informed, as restoration work progresses.”

Update 11.25am: BELCO has identified the problem as vaulting flooding and is now working with crews to resolve the service problem.

A spokesperson said, “The outage resulted from heavy rain, which caused a vault at AS Cooper to flood. Crews are in the process of pumping out the water. This work must be completed before repairs can commence.”

Update 1.04pm: A BELCO spokesperson said, “As of 12:55 PM, restoration work has been completed, and power has been restored to the 13 customers on Front Street. We thank these customers for their patience and cooperation today.”
