Tourism In “Final Employment Discussions”

February 13, 2014

The Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA] said that it is in final employment discussions with 15 Bermuda Department of Tourism [BDOT] staff regarding job offers.

The BTA said, “In the Bermuda office, 10 members of the BDOT team applied for positions at the BTA, two subsequently withdrew and the BTA has now finalised discussions with three of them.

“Those that were not successful were advised to meet with the Government Human Resources [HR] Department and we believe that most, if not all, of those individuals have now been successful in securing positions.

“The BTA was in touch with the Government HR Department throughout the recruitment process.

“In New York, 15 individuals applied for positions and the BTA has now completed discussions with 12 of them. Thus, only three staff were not given offers and those three have also been encouraged to make contact with the Government HR Department.”

CEO of the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Bill Hanbury, says: “It’s exciting to have offered positions to a number of BDOT staff. Staff are the lifeblood of any organisation and as the new employees come on board, we will be able to increase our activities and get to work.

“There is much to do and we look forward to welcoming our new colleagues to the organisation. As per our previous statements, it would be inappropriate to make any comment on the status of the individual discussions or arrangements.”

The BTA has begun to advertise positions that were not offered to BDOT staff and interviews have already begun.

Mr. Hanbury adds: “We are pleased with the number and quality of Bermudian applicants for various positions within the BTA. Clearly many Bermudians are sharing the excitement of the future with us.”

I never saw adverts for the overseas jobs. Anyone know.

  2. Question says:

Ok – so I read the article and this is what I got: –

In New York, 15 applied – 12 got jobs, so 3 people lost their jobs.
In Bermuda, 10 applied – 2 withdraw, leaving 8 applicants, and 3 are in final discussions (NOT GOT THE JOB, BUT IN FINAL DISCUSSIONS).

“Those that were not successful were advised to meet with the Government Human Resources [HR] Department and we believe that most, if not all, of those individuals have now been successful in securing positions” – - translation – WE DON’T KNOW IF THEY HAVE JOBS, BUT SOMEONE TOLD US THAT THEY DID.

Additionally, for those 3 in NY, “those three have also been encouraged to make contact with the Government HR Department.” – Translation – THEY DON’T HAVE A JOB EITHER.

Yes, I am being a bit simplified in my expression, but am I wrong in my logical assessment of the situation?

    Question yourself before you answer.

apparently it is taboo to speak on this subject.
everyone seems to avoid commenting on the bta like its a plauge.
how these jobs are only now being mentioned is beyond me.
how long has it been since the bta officially took over?
ery body must have been using up their vacation time.
just like the financial compensation packages, everything is secret.
    for now.

  7. Ty says:

Is it not bad enough that we have two political parties that will not get out of the “sand box” knocking each other drink boxes out of their hands and refuse to grow up. Now we have to have “commenters” on these sites jumping right in the “sand box” with them.

MOST OF YOU JUST NEED TO GROW UP. Its OK being big people…. MmmKay.

  8. more than enough says:

who the f@(& are you? king of the sandbox? stfu.

  9. Ty says:

@more than enough – No – idiot boy – I am one of the few adults on the outside of the “sand box” watching clowns like you and half of our politicians do all your sand slinging. As stated before. GROW UP. Its OK on the big people side.
