Tribute Concert In Honour Of Louise Jackson

The Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts will be hosting a concert in honour of the late Louise Jackson, OBE at the Earl Cameron Theatre [City Hall] on Wednesday, February 26th at 8:00pm.

As the 2014 Bermuda Festival is coming to a close, it is felt fitting to honour Mrs Jackson who was both a Board Director and a Member of the Programming Advisory Committee for many years.

Performing in this special concert are:

  • Students and teachers of The Jackson School of Performing Arts. This school, now just past its 60th year was started by Louise Jackson and is now led by Jeanne Legere]
  • Students of United Dance Productions [UDP]. UDP is under the direction of Suzette Harvey, a former student of the Jackson School.
  • Dancer, Sophia Cannonier, former dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem.
  • Music students from The Bermuda High School [BHS] [Mrs Jackson served on their Board]
  • Ruth Thomas and Company with one of their heralded Mosaics
  • H&H Gombey Captain and Drummers
  • Dancers from the internationally known, The Philadelphia Dance Company [Philadanco], whose Executive Artistic Director, Joan Myers Brown, was a close friend of Mrs Jackson.

All groups and individuals participating in the concert have offered to perform as a way of honouring Mrs Jackson.

The concert has been funded by The Bank of Bermuda Foundation and The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs. It is also being supported by BdaTix, The Bermuda Federation of Musicians and Variety Artists, The Dismont Family and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

This Tribute Concert is free of charge but Admission Tickets are required. Tickets can be obtained from The Bermuda National Library on Queen Street from February 10th.

    Perhaps this concert in honor of Mrs. Jackson could be Video-recorded and the DVDs sold, and the revenue given to the ‘Performing Arts’, just a thought.
