Someone-has-died-in-a-road-crash-book-[Updated with video] The Bermuda Police Service announced that in partnership with East End Telecom they will be able to supply a free book Someone has died in a road crash to children bereaved by road crashes.

A police spokesperson said, “Like adults, children affected by road death and injury need loving support and information.

“It is often better to tell children things through honest discussion and involve them in decision making rather than keep them in the dark and leave them excluded in an effort to protect them from the truth.”

Someone has died in a road crash is full of colourful, warm illustrations and text that helps adults to support children and answer their questions. Each Child’s book comes with an accompanying guide booklet for parents caring for a bereaved child.

The spokesperson continued, “Additionally we have also brought in a booklet titled Coping with grief when someone you love dies suddenly which is for anyone who has suffered the shattering experience of a loved one dying suddenly.

“It aims to help people understand emotions and feelings commonly suffered and provides straightforward advice on how to cope and who can help you recover.

“Going forward we are looking into bringing in a second book for bereaved children titled Someone has died suddenly which is aimed at children bereaved by any sudden cause.”

All these books will be available free from the BPS Family Liaison Officers who are assigned to families after an incident involving a death in order to assist them through the process of investigations and other legal proceedings.

Call the Bermuda Police Service Family Liaison Coordinator at 295-0011 for further information on these books and the role of the Family Liaison Officer.

this looks like a very good idea, children like something to hold on to,like a baby clings to a favourite blanket or toy.

  2. Hmmm says:

This should be recommended reading for anyone getting a drivers licence.

    • DUHH says:

Please explain to me how reading this book is going to help anyone getting a drivers license when pictures circulate of people in horrific accidents and fatalities doesn’t deter people from driving/riding reckless?

  3. Liss says:

Hope someone can donate one to the local library!

  4. Cynic says:

Hate the title of this book. Just awful.

    • MW says:

The whole point is to be honest with the kids and help them through it, not sure how you can sugar coat the subject,

      • Tough Love says:

I guess they mean it sounds like something you say when you don’t know the person. Very impersonal. And not what I would title a book for children.

    • nuffin but the truth says:

your nic certainly suits your comment!

  5. PANGAEA says:

You want to shove reality in our children’s faces, so why don’t you also let them stay up late at night and see all the filthy language and killing on TV.

I would hate to think what goes on in some people homes that consiquently scars our children for life.

Adults would do better to to get their own acts together and become a shining example for our young people.
