“Suspected Prolific Burglar” In Police Custody

March 20, 2014

A suspected prolific burglar was arrested on Wednesday [Mar 19] afternoon in Pembroke, and he remains in police custody and a court appearance is anticipated in due course.

Yesterday the police had urged residents to report any suspicious activity as well as to take care in securing their homes after nine burglaries were reported in a 24 hour period.

Today a police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their vigilance regarding suspicious individuals in their neighbourhoods following reports of several burglaries recently.

“As a result, a suspected prolific burglar was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Pembroke. He remains in police custody and a court appearance is anticipated in due course.

“Despite this arrest, residents should continue to report any suspicious activity seen in their neighbourhoods, such as suspicious individuals and vehicles entering or leaving the area.

“Most recently, police have been made aware of unknown persons attending homes claiming to be Cablevision employees working in the vicinity.

“Accordingly, residents are advised to verify the intentions of any unsolicited individual(s) on their property by contacting the relevant company, if one is mentioned.

“Alternatively, contact the main police telephone number 295-0011 immediately.”

Four camera home surveillance systems start at $300. A worthwhile investment. Put one facing the road and you’ll have a picture of anyone in the neighborhood checking out houses to burgle, including yours. Burglars are surprisingly obvious when they’re looking for a target.

And we wonder why the “Arabic” justice system does not work.

Funny you should say that they are posing as Cablevision employees. I had 3 people come to my door on a Saturday in an unmarked van which were outsourced by Cablevison to update the cable box outside. I was skeptical at first and they produced a clipboard for me to sign and it had my name and address on it provided by Cablevison. I think Cablevision should alert their customers if this will occur. Especially with the way things are going on this island.
I am glad they caught this prolific burglar.

Something tells me that this individual was angry at being released from prison with nowhere to lay his head , no money and no job . No excuse for his foul behavior , however , I’ll be interested to see what the social inquiry has to say .

@eview, Paranoia strikes deep. Into your heart it will creep. With all of the robberies and other nonsense, you should not be thinking black/white, you should be thinking people are looking out for any unusual activity, and a car broken down is an unusual activity! No hmmmmming about it!
