Women In Sports Set To Hold Run & Walk Event

March 26, 2014

The Women In Sports Expo is getting set to hold its 5K Run and Walk and Girls Rock 1 Mile event on April 27, 2014, bringing together women from around the island in order to promote sport and fitness.

A spokesperson said, “We want to continue with the Women in Sport theme and encourage young girls and women to have an event every year. This is not just for women in sports, but all women of all ages to come out and participate.

“We have added a different twist to this race. The race is for all women but we have added a few new categories which offer mother/daughter combinations.”

The new categories for this year’s event include:

  • 1 mile run child/5K walk
  • 1 mile run child/5K run
  • 5K walk adult or child combination
  • 5K run adult or child/5K walk adult or child
  • 5K run adult or child combination

The spokesperson continued, “All of these mother/daughter categories will receive a gift certificate for a hotel which they can use, if they want, for Mother’s Day. We will be awarding monetary prizes to the top three women in the 5K run, and there will be gift certificates for the top three girls [U18] in the Girls Rock 1 Mile.

“We will also be awarding a plaque to the company with the most participants, a monetary award to the National Governing Body with the most participants, and a monetary award for the school with the most participants.

“The participants can enter as individuals and also as part of a team. We are excited about this event as there has never been a race with this sort of twist and we feel it is a great mother/daughter bonding event. We will have snacks and drink and a few booths set up at the end to discuss health issues and get your blood pressure taken, along with other information.

“The event will take place on Sunday, April 27 at 3.00pm. The first 400 participants to sign up will receive t-shirts, bags, and goodies. Both races will start and finish at Argus as they are our title sponsor.”

“Registration for the event can be done online, or by filling out a registration form, available at schools, companies, and gyms, and dropping it off at the BNAA office on Burnaby Hill.”
