Kay & Dangor Appointed To Court of Appeal
Government House announced that Governor George Fergusson has appointed Sir Maurice Kay and Ms Patricia Dangor to the Island’s Court of Appeal.
Ms Dangor, a Bermudian, worked for 14 years on the court circuit of England and Wales. Ms Dangor has acted as a Puisne Judge in the Bermuda Supreme Court on a number of occasions since 1995. She will take up her appointment on 1 July 2014 for a period of 3 years.
Sir Maurice Kay is currently a Lord Justice of Appeal and the Vice President of the Court of Appeal in England. He has extensive civil and commercial law experience and has served as adviser to the Lord Chief Justice for England and Wales. Sir Maurice will take up his appointment on 1 October for a period of 3 years.
The Governor said, “I am pleased to appoint Ms Patricia Dangor and Sir Maurice Kay to the Court of Appeal. Both have extensive experience and will be valuable additions to the Court of Appeal in Bermuda.”

Hmmm…two new Justices of Appeal. I hope that these two will prove to be great additions.
I wonder, though, when some of the existing lot are going to start retiring – Judge Zacca, the oldest of them, is almost 83 with the others not that far behind.
I don’t want to sound ageist, but for some things age does and should matter and 83 is far too aged to sit on any other bench in Bermuda or the UK (and Zacca has already been forced to retire from other islands).
Ms.Dangor is a very good choice. Bob Richards must be proud of his sister!
