Traffic Changes Due To March On Parliament

April 29, 2014

A march on Parliament on Thursday, May 1 will cause vehicle rerouting on several Bermuda streets, necessitating diversions until the event concludes.

A police spokesperson, “The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the motoring public that during a scheduled march on Parliament starting at 1.00pm on Thursday, May 1, vehicular traffic will be prohibited along sections of the following streets until the procession has concluded:

  • Washington Street
  • Victoria Street
  • Wesley Street
  • Church Street
  • Parliament Street

“Police officers will be on hand to monitor the march and assist with traffic flow in the City of Hamilton. Diversions will be in place; however delays are anticipated.

“Motorists are therefore advised to take alternate routes if possible.”

  1. NANCY says:

It is good to see the Move of people standing up for justice of life. People Power is Powerful movement. I hope all come out to support it. We must stand together to ensure a higher quality of life for all !!

    MUCH LOVE

    • Alicia says:

I earn my higher quality of life by working my tail off to get an education that will give me a good job, working very hard at my job and continually doing courses to maintain my level of knowledge. This was all done by me – no one handed me anything. If someone wants a higher quality of life, let’s help them with education but other than that they are on their own.

      • I'm Amazed says:

Good for you, but keep in mind that there are many educated people out of a job as well. Not all unemployed/underemployed are uneducated…..stay abreast of the news and look around.

    • Kangoocar says:

You really are ” simple ” aren’t you betty??? Much love?? Dead give away every time moron!!!! Nancy 2 is not clever either!!!!

      • Redo says:

Nancy / Betty / Lavern / SherriJ…same sh-t, different day. No one cares anymore. Get a life.

  2. Raw Onion says:

Don’t be in my way with this frivolous march. I have work to do.

  3. Ringmaster says:

So those streets are closed to traffic while a handful of people decide they can’t use the sidewalk. Why inconvenience the majority for a tiny minority?

  4. Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

i hope to see every single workable but UNEMPLOYED person, fighting for THEIR self survival at this march…NOT people that took time from their JOB to parade the streets…show them your cause with conviction…then you CANNOT be ignored…there’s too many eyes on Govt. right now.

OH!! by the way…Notice to ALL businesses…ya s#!T will be late tomorrow brah!

    • inna says:

“OH!! by the way…Notice to ALL businesses…ya s#!T will be late tomorrow brah!”

And THAT is why we are in the situation we find ourselves in! Lovely read for a wednesday morning..

  5. Kangoocar says:

Inconvenienced by a bunch of numbskulls that can’t get the fact that Labour day is the first Monday in September every year??? They better not get in my way!!!!!

    • I'm Amazed says:

Numbskulls? You are broadly categorizing. It’s a safe bet that you don’t know the individual stories – the who, why, etc. Are they ‘numbskulls’ because you aren’t marching and they are? “They better not get in my way!!!” Okay J. MacPhee/McPhee……

      • Kangoocar says:

Yes numbskulls!!! This is the biu organizing a march to get their point across that they want their labour day holiday changed to May 1st, forgetting the fact that we tied this holiday to the American Labour day Holiday for visitor reasons, also we already have May 24th holiday in May!! How many more holidays do the NUMBSKULLS want in a month??? Would they just prefer that we employers just pay all employees for 30 days a month and just expect them to show up a couple times a month?? Again I say, they better not get in my way!!!

        • Coffee says:

And if they get in your way ?

        • Speak Truth says:

If you are what the OBA have to offer, lets just say Bermuda is in big trouble. The attempt to degrade people seems to suggest that you and Mrs. Daniels in the same bad boat. Please stop with your distasteful and hateful remarks. OBA if you praise someone like this well it speaks volumes as to what kind of party you are.

  6. Coffee says:

And I’m warning you women , no drinking on porches . Shouting , screaming and getting your knickers in a twist because of the peaceful marchers is forbidden !

    • Sandy Bottom says:

Let’s see how “peaceful” the marchers are.

      • Coffee says:

Have they ever behaved any way but peaceful ?

  7. Bermuda123 says:

What exactly is this March looking to achieve? We all know that a segment of our people are struggling, however exactly what do you expect the Government to do about it? They cannot create jobs (except in the Civil Service and we know where that has taken us). All this does is send a message to both businesses already here and those potentially coming that there is some degree of unhappiness with the Government. Exactly what does that do for anyone??

Come up with proposals – a March achieves nothing apart from irritation to everyone else.

  8. nuffin but the truth says:

you can march anywhere you please,it wont do any good…the jobs are NOT available!
The entire blame lays solely at the feet of the defunct plp and their racist policies which drove out many employers and employees and caused a huge downturn in the local economy.
The ripple effect was devastating to this small island.

  9. MB says:

Christ, if you guy’s put as much work into getting an education as you do marching you would be getting so much further in life. I bust my @$$ education wise and at work to get were I am. Don’t let the word sorry jobs taken get in your way. The Jobs are there you just need to have the certs to get them. So go study. You can never stop getting an education. The world of the future is all about higher education and certifications. Spend the “Marching Time” Studying and it’ll do you good. Just Saying.

    • Redo says:

Umum…but sittin on a wall bitchin n moaning is more fun…and sooo much easier than actually getting off my azz n getting an education. Jus sayin.

    • Joonya says:

MB, Im glad I read all the way down before commenting as you took the words right out my mouff. If they spent as much time and creativity as they did organizing marches they would be employed by now. They want to blame a government, go march to Alaska Hall and ask to speak to De Kernal. Understand economics and concepts such as the ‘ripple effect’.

    • Back-in-the-day-girl says:

Although I agree in part with your statement, the only problem I have with it is that getting a higher education costs. If you are not working to make the money to pay for that education, where does that leave you? The banks are not lending unless you have security. (Now if I had security I would not need the loan in the first place) so that screws up a lot of people’s well-intentions.

I also have a problem with the mentality that you get an education to come back a get a job – working to make someone else rich. We need to frame our children’s mindsets to think outside that box. See the world, start your own business! Don’t come back to work for ‘the man’. Come back and be ‘the man’!

  10. Triangle Drifter says:

This colossal waste of time march is on Thursday. Will anyone be at The House to greet them? One of the maintenance people maybe?

Hope nobody from Government makes a special trip just to tell them nobody is there. Come back another day.

  11. BlueFamiliar says:

While I may think that the march isn’t necessary, people have the right to do this sort of thing so long as they follow the laws. I am glad that everything seems to be done legally and that people have been given good notice.

  12. MisterMan311 says:

Um… doesn’t Parliament sit on a Friday, not a Thursday?
