Mark Pettingill Meets With U.S. Attorney-General
Attorney-General Mark Pettingill had a sit down meeting with the United States Attorney-General Eric Holder today [Apr 29] in London at the Ukrainian Forum to discuss a number of issues including civil asset recovery as a result of corruption.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda discussion on the legalization and importation of medical marijuana was also raised. This is now the second time the Attorney-Generals have met in a continuing spirit of mutual co-operation between Bermuda and the United States.

“Earlier in the day, the Bermuda Attorney-General moderated at the Ukrainian Forum on Asset Recovery with delegates including the United Kingdom Director of Public Prosecutions and the Ukrainian Minister and other senior delegates on Stocktaking on Stolen Assets in Ukraine.
“The Attorney-General commenced the session with a brief overview on the strength of Bermuda’s AML and its regulatory regime and also highlighted the new civil asset recovery regime. The Minister also reinforced Bermuda’s commitment to cooperate in recovering any such stolen assets.”

If Dr.Brown hadn’t established a clear path for Bermuda with the Uighers , then this meeting would have merely been another photo op . I’m positive that M. Pettingill assured the bigger man that the new party is treating the three newly minted Bermudians and their families better than the old admin. ever could , and never had a problem with them being here .

You seem to be missing the fact that there were higher meetings than that during the UBP years. How do you think such a strong business relationship got established between Bda and US. In fact if you look at it, the US are probably laughing all the way to the bank for getting Bermuda for taking the Uighurs. It allowed them to shovel another ugly mess they made onto us. The first ugly mess being that they managed to break their 99 year lease with us for only $11 million dollars and not even have to clean up after themselves. The PLP’s greatest achievements in international relations were them signing tax information treaties with countries, many of whom we had no business dealing with, that were essentially cookie cut from the last and weren’t even authored by them. And are now effectively defunct by a new universal treaty.
The OBA has a ways to go before they can catch up the levels of diplomacy we once saw during the Swan years, but it is refreshing to se that they are taking serious the reformation of our laws while engaging with our international partners to protect our rights with them. Hopefully something productive will come out of these talks

This is a priceless argument to witness. It’s amazing to me that the two of you can only part company (politically) outside of Bermuda. We have our own version of Fox News here but neither of you bother to debunk them but instead cite them as authorities for your common positions. Outside of Bermuda politics you feel the freedom to be liberal or conservative and readily identify with one side or the other. But in your own country, there’s no such objectivity. In Bermuda its simpler: us vs them and ideology doesn’t even enter into it. You remind me of the working class Brits who moved to Bermuda in the 1970s. Labour voters or supporters through and through in the UK but once they got the Commonwealth vote in 76(?) they voted en masse (and continued to forever) for the UBP our local Tory party. Now why is that….what is the single differential between the Parties……what is it that could make a liberal Democrat and a Michael Foote Labour-ite vote and support the OBA / UBP respectively? Hey Mike, I know you probably don’t care much about the truth but even CNN and many left leaning newspapers in the U.S say that Fox is more balanced than all other news outlets. But, that being said, don’t listen to U.S news stations and look overseas in Europe and they tell the news that Obama’s defenders are so ardently holding back and you will see a different light on the administration.
