Photos: Atlantic Guardian Cable Ship Docks

The cable ship Atlantic Guardian arrived in Bermuda on Wednesday afternoon [Apr 2], with plans to depart on Thursday, April 3. The ship was docked thanks to help from Bermuda Yacht Services.

The Atlantic Guardian will saw crew change while docked in Bermuda, with new sailors taking over before the vessel continues on its way to Norway; the new crew flew to the island aboard a British Airways flight.

According to Atlantic-Cable.com, “The Atlantic Guardian was built in 2001 by Van der Glessen de Noord Shipyard in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It boasts a length of 102.13 metres, a breadth of 18 metres, and a depth of 11.8 metres.

“Launched on July 27, 2001, the completed vessel was handed over to Global Marine Systems Ltd in November 2001 to be used as a maintenance vessel capable of working in all types of weather. It was based in Baltimore, USA, on maintenance duties.

“The CS Atlantic Guardian was sold to North Sea Invest AS. Following a refit, she was recommissioned in May 2005 as MV Atlantic Guardian and is operated by Electromagnetic GeoServices, a company which undertakes sea bed logging for the offshore oil and gas industries.”
