Politicians To Face Off In Sumo Wrestling Match
Political battles will be taken to a whole new level this Good Friday, with a Progressive Labour Party MP and One Bermuda Alliance Minister set to face off in a sumo wrestling match.
The Minister of Community, Culture & Sports Wayne Scott will test his sumo skills against Opposition MP Lawrence Scott at the PHC Community Fun Day on Friday, April 18th.
Both MPs represent Warwick, with Lawrence Scott serving as the MP for Warwick South East, while Minister Scott represents Warwick North Central.
A PHC spokesperson said, “They will be raising funds for PHC’s Going Home effort as they compete for bragging rights in an ‘intense’ sumo-wrestling competition.
“I think it’s a great example for our young people that opposing politicians can come together and put aside their differences for the greater good.”
Lawrence Scott said he decided to do it as it’s for a good cause, adding that he lived in the immediate community surrounding PHC and saw first hand the positive impact they have made.
When asked for a prediction on the outcome of the match, Mr. Scott said, “I’m not a betting man but one thing I can say is that the winner hands down will be the community. Minister Scott and I plan to put on a show, it may not be your traditional ‘fight night’ but we promise it will be entertaining, from us dressed in the traditional sumo attire until someone is crowned a winner.”
Last year’s Good Friday festivities saw OBA MP Sylvan Richards and PLP Senator Diallo Rabain face off in an egg & spoon race, while the last politician to step in the ring was MP Jeff Sousa who took on Middleweight Boxing Champion Teresa Perozzi in a boxing bout during Harbour Nights in 2012.
The Community Day will take place at PHC field from 10am – 7pm and will entail a host of fun activities including fun castles, a bull ride, food stalls, 6-a-side football, kite flying, races, the Warwick Gombeys, DJ Chubb, as well as Bermuda Idol winner Olivia Hamilton performing along with PHC’s own Shakir Smith.
The MP Lawrence Scott vs Minister Wayne Scott sumo wrestling match will take place at 12 noon.
We should have more of this, maybe on a Friday up at the HOA..The fight card could be Premier vs Marc Bean, Fahy vs Chris Furbert Crockwell vs Wayne Furbert, And Nandi vs Lovitta Fogo.. Now thats worth going to see…
I hope the two men will not be wearing a sling shot or a thong up their Ox as it would look disgraceful,but in good fun I hope Mr. Wayne Scott wins.Only because he is from Warwick, not because he is O.B.A
Lawrence Scott was born in Khyber Pass Warwick and currently lives in Khyber Pass now.
i would think they will be wearing a big padded sumo suit thong and all…lol…with out it , it would be just a stick man fight.
