Students Completing BHI Life Skills Program

April 22, 2014

Children island-wide enrolled in Bermuda Hospitality Institute’s “Hospitality Skills = Life Skills” program will be celebrating the completion of the course with a special final lesson on dining and etiquette, hosted at various hospitality businesses around the island.

A spokesperson said, “Final lessons have started today, with The Reefs hosting a class from Elliott Primary School, and will continue through to mid-May. In addition to the final lesson in Dining & Etiquette, students enrolled in the four-month program have had lessons thus far in Bermuda Pride, Bermudian Hospitality, and Customer Service.

“The program, in its fourth year, ensures each upcoming generation is knowledgeable and engaged in the importance of hospitality as a life skill, no matter what profession they may choose.”

“This program would not be successful without the dedication and commitment of the volunteers, who are all hospitality professionals representing various facets of the industry,” said Pahn-ya Ratteray, BHI Program Manager.

“The volunteers not only teach the classes, but they go above and beyond to bring the industry alive both inside and outside of the classroom, allowing the students to test their new skills.”

“Other businesses hosting the final classes include The Fairmont Southampton, Rosewood Tucker’s Point Hotel, Grotto Bay Beach Resort, and the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, among others, and the lessons will include a meal and other fun and informative activities.”

“With the aim of raising the awareness of the hospitality industry, the “Hospitality Skills = Life Skills” program is just one of many programs created by BHI to expose the island’s young people to the local hospitality industry and to inform them of its importance in Bermuda.

“Schools currently involved in the program include Elliott Primary School, Francis Patton Primary School, Port Royal Primary School, Heron Bay Primary School, Dalton E. Tucker Primary School, Victor Scott Primary School, Dellwood Middle School, and Whitney Institute Middle School.”
