      • Loving Togetherness says:

BETTTY You seem to be on target with the political goings ons. What is your prediction in regards to Crockwell? This situation is more than I expected.

    • Enough says:

LOOKS LIKE GOD ANSWERED THIS “KOOL-AID” DRINKERS PRAYERS!!! Bye bye Mr. Pettingil! Thanks for your disrespectful comments about Christians so that we could know exactly how to pray concerning you!

    • Mark was the best they had for AG, so picking Trevor is a joke by far, but it is now Time for Crock to resign also and don’t forget to bring with you the silent joker, needs to resign also.

      • voter says:

He must trust Jeanne although he was vexed she took over as opposition senate leader and she’s all the way over in Bahamas attending a commonwealth conference. Notice he’s not stupid he’s keeping all UBP members in his cabinet, he don’t give a s$it what the public’s perception is – he’s laughing all the way to government house

    • Sherlene says:

My VOTE for Premier is Cole Simons . Shawn what does it take for you to make you resign .Where is your dignity.

      • Dana says:

Crockwell, should never have been allowed to be a member of parliament, the same goes for Commisiong,we need people with no criminal records in parliament !!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Terry says:

    Aftermath of JetGate?

    • Mile High Club says:

No – he never denied that it wasn’t true. All he said was Mr. Bean seems to know more about his person life than he did, and that he would make an announcement in due course. Now he has?

  3. M.T. Pockets says:

    Maybe a new Deputy Premier.

  4. PLEASE RESIGN CAMPAIGN says:

    PLEASE RESIGN CAMPAIGN

The people need the following resignation:

    1) MP Mark Pettingill
    2) MP Shaun Crockwell

    PLEASE RESIGN

    • Hmmm says:

Marc Bean over Scaurgate, Gamblegate and Spicegate.

If not, how can you vote for PLP

    • Mile High Club says:

The People need the resignation of any PLP minister that sat in the house ofver their 14 years!

How quickly we forget what the AG Ms. Jacobs Matthews reported in 2010. And I quote:

      • Poor or non-existent controls over the use of public money directed to Faith-Based Tourism and a lack of due-diligence and compliance with Financial Instructions by senior civil servants disbursing these funds. Faith-Based Tourism was awarded a contract in April 2007 in the amount of $400,000.

      • A complete breakdown of internal controls and a pervasive lack of accountability for the expenditure of $20.2 million by the National Drug Commission over the five year period from 2002 to 2006 leading to a denial of opinion in each of those years. The former Auditor General found evidence of fraudulent activity including payment of personal expenses, and a serious lack of Board oversight.

Why did nobody stand down from the PLP!? Anyone, anyone????

      • religion ruins everything. says:

        oh! how quickly they forget.

  5. Smh says:

Let’s see who’s brave enough to resign next! After all Craig Cannonier wasn’t the ONLY one involved, so he shouldn’t be the ONLY one to be blamed!!

    • yes I! says:

I dont think it is bravery in this instance more like resign quick before Bermuda find out how deep this thing goes and the extent of my involvement….. A good day for Bermuda!

  6. The Dark Knight Returns says:

SMDH. The only thing that would surprise me at this stage is if they get rid of Senator Fahy and place an MP who was actually elected by the people. I just do not understand how the PLP and the OBA are allowed to use a person who was not elected by the people to conduct its business. There should be a rule that states if you run for parliament and lose you cannot be given a portfolio.

    • really? says:

oh no! not Michael Fahy! So far, he’s the most hardworking cabinet official (aside from Michael Dunkley) they’ve got.

      • Hmmm says:

Fahy has been doing an amazing job for Bermuda.

        Fahy for Premier !

        • Bermudian says:

How by pushing peoples work permits through. I’m just saying

          • Hmmm says:

That was under the PLP…how soon you forget

          • Well I would have to agree and Fahy can prove us all wrong by explaining how is many permits already in place being renewed, for those that are working in the hospitality, restaurants, van drivers, plumbers, carpenters, just to name a few.

when there are Bermudians who don’t sit on a job being lazy and not wanted to work, and Bermudians who spent many years committed to their former employers before having their jobs been made redundant, how are these Bermudians still being over look when Mr. Fahy as the minister is rubber stamping renewals of work permits, for folk who are walking dogs and taking rich folk kids to school and dropping and picking up their bosses from the office, or those who are in the restaurants doing exactly what many Bermudians can do

            • Vested says:

There is a distinct difference between “ability” and “willingness”. Yes, Bermudians have the ability but for many of these said jobs, they don’t want to do it. I run a company that employs 25 people so I know what I am talking about.

Jobs will never be tailored for the people….the peopole must have teh skills adn want to do the job. You speak of rich folk wanting their dogs walked or kids dropped off like there is something wrong with this..if they have the ability to payh for it, why cant they have this service? Cuz Bermudians don’t want to do it? Gimme a break.

            • Hmmm says:

Are they actively applying for jobs?

      • INTEGRITY BERMUDA says:

That’s what you said about the Experimental Premier Cannonier.

        Lost……….Money can be reearned.

        Lost……….Time can be clawed back.

        Lost……….Love can be ignited.

        Lost……….INTEGRITY is UNRECOVERABLE!!!!

(SMILE) kiss babies (SMILE) shake hands (SMILE) run away from the press (SMILE) tell the public about trust and integrity.

        http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/latestnews/Bermuda-premier-resigns-under–Jetgate–pressure

    • enough says:

Michael Fahy is actually doing a geat job, why do people keep bashing him. Don’t understand.

      • really? says:

He’s the one guy that is not a politician but is just looking out for the best of Bermuda. He’s perfect for the job!

      • Tough Love says:

Because the people didn’t vote him in.

        • really? says:

          so what??

        • Build a Better Bermuda says:

Nobody voted Burch in, and Fahy has been doing a way better job

    • Rich says:

      Because the Constitutions requires it.

    • Lennie says:

Col. Burch ..say no more because you sound stupid

  7. Terry says:

    Milkman.
    Do your thing.

    • Hmmm says:

So if Dunkley is milkman, then Bean must be Gambling Shop preying on the people he claims to support man. or Devilman

I’m sure Bean will dole out some bucks for a party or happy hour now and again to keep fooling the crowd.

      • Impressive says:

I am sure he doesn’t stand at the door and force people to come in and place bets, its a business, and its the customer’s/client’s decision to bet, he is simply providing a service. I don’t understand your comment about preying on people. I don’t drink milk or dairy products as I don’t consider them good for the body, but I will not go as far as saying Dunkley is playing with people’s lives, if you see the point I am trying to make.

        • Build a Better Bermuda says:

It comes down to where he decided to open shop, it represents his targeted market plan.

  8. JJ says:

Resignation… They got caught, time to go.

    • bdacatz says:

Come on Pettingill…..be honest. You’re resigning because of Jetgate. Bad choice for legal counsel for Clarien Bank. I would certainly think twice before dealing with that bank.

  9. PLEASE RESIGN CAMPAIGN says:

    Dear MP Crockwell,

Please please we beg do the correct thing and step aside, your job as an MP and also at the law firm will ensure you still earn over $200,000 per year

    Thank you

    PLEASE RESIGN CAMPAIGN

  10. Bermudian says:

Two down one to go. Crockwell it’s times for you to resign also. Let this government get back to the peoples business. As long as your their attention is going to be on this Jetgate. If you care you would do the proper thing.

    • Anon says:

So people that study hard and are successful need to resign and not run for public office? SMH

    • voter says:

two to go, don’t forget Fahy

      • Hmmm says:

Fahy has been doing a great job. Stop showing hate, where none is merited.

        • really? says:

stop hating – he’s the best cabinet official they’ve got so far. He’s a doer and gets things done!

  11. wow says:

    Hahaha

  12. Ty says:

    One more to go!

  13. Scandal says:

I wonder if this is the first and only scandal

  14. Hmmm says:

    Well done OBA.

  15. Huh says:

Good move Mr. Dunkley. Pettingill was a complete idiot. Crockwell?

  16. Family Man says:

Doesn’t say much for the ethics of Clarien Bank does it?

    • At least we now have a choice as to if we wish to pay his wages or not. If he is AG we pay if he is at Clarien we dont have to, consider my accounts closed!

  17. HEY DIS BIE HERE says:

LOL now what OBA SUPPORTERS ??

    • C says:

They move on. Try regroup and get back to business but crock well has to go

    • LOL (Original TM*) says:

Have charges been brought up are any involved going to trail looks to me like more unethical but not illegal stuff going on. Where have I heard that before…..

LOL well the vote is tied once again OBA integrity 0 PLP also 0 what choices we have in politics here. Only thing saving the OBA is they arent race haters.

  18. iResign says:

Crockwell needs to make it! Plus Fahy, Dunkley and everybody else involved in the cover up.
Clean the House of all wickedness and let it be a lesson going forward.

    • really? says:

wickedness? look who’s talking! it’s the PLP rank who should resign. it will certainly Bermuda do good when we’ve gotten rid of them.

  19. The whole party needs to go

    • Truth is killin' me... says:

Why?…so that unaccountability can get back in…I don’t think so! For once you’re seeing heads roll for BS decisions made by MP’s…it’s a NEW DAWN…PINCH ME!!

    • enough says:

Still waiting to hear where the millins are that went missing under the PLP leadership. If they were so great where is the money and why are we so in debt, actually just about bancrupt.

  20. Joe says:

Well done, Bernews. You certainly beat the rest of the media on this.

  21. hmmmm says:

Why am I not surprise at this?

  22. Truth is killin' me... says:

At least there is an air of resposibility and accountability happening under this Government. Nice to see for once! It must be a new era for this island!! Pinch me…I think I’m dreaming!!!

    • Loving Togetherness says:

Not really, they were forced to take action, after the article written by Johnson, and the PLP in the house exposed them in regards to this matter. A responsible government would have done it a year ago. I think now they were forced to take action, as unethical behaviors were revealed.

  23. Cow Polly says:

Pettingill was trying to transition the AG position back into a non-governmental position and was then going to move back into the private sector but Marc Bean couldn’t keep quiet and forced the situation. So I ask you, what’s best for Bermuda? This turmoil or a planned, strategic approach?

    • Terry says:

Section 14 of Part Two Schedual #4.
      See operation Pressure Cooker.

    • maybe he was but you cannot convince me that wasnt for his own selfish reasons…….your know what they say about greedy right?

      • Build a Better Bermuda says:

That it knows no boundaries, knows no religion, know no race, knows no politics… It is a human factor, statistically it would be as prevalent in the PLP as it is in the OBA. After all we have a opposition leader who runs a gambling shop and a shadow cabinet member who allegedly sold alchohol illegally.
I expect it in politics, my choose doesn’t come from who is the cleanest, might as well go looking for unicorns. No, it is a matter who can produce the best result at the least cost to us taxpayers. The PLP failed at that, caught up too much in ideology and still are, now it is the OBA’s turn and so far this ordeal didn’t cost the taxpayers millions of dollars. Think that can be said for any of the PLP scandals.

  24. SMH says:

What i dont understand is how Marc Bean has soooo much to say about wrong doings now that a different party is in. But NO ONE had the balls or the mouth to call out their own leader at the time(Ewart Brown)on his trips and deals..

    • Terry says:

      $800 Million.
      Shalom.

    • sonso says:

cuz the gravy train was in full effect at that time! things were looking good at the time under his watch mate!

  25. somuchless says:

    Caught me off guards

  26. the truth says:

    I effing love it!

  27. watchfuleyes says:

Now we need Crockwell and Fahy to go!!!!!! and then the whole Party!!!!!
who said the people don’t have any power?

    • 32n64w says:

What has Fahy done to warrant his resignation?

      • LiarLiar says:

        He’s white and not a PLP supporter…

      • really? says:

haters – try doing their job. Fahy is the best cabinet official we’ve got so far.

    • Hmmm says:

the people voted for the OBA because of the PLP failures and no accountability.

Now the OBA are showing accountability and successes. I think the PLP needs to start a culling or they won’t be voted in next time.

  28. Bermuda needs Justice says:

Premier Dunkley, do the right thing and remove Mr. Crockwell. He should never have been Minister of Tourism from the get go. This party has to many intelligent minds working behind the curtains bring them to the stage.

Why do we waste time on front man who do not produce?

  29. Jane says:

OBA does not have the time to play dirty as they are trying to get jobs for the people. Clearly somethign the PLP can’t or didn’t do! I do appauld the OBA for taking responsibility though for what I don’t know as not sure if what has transpired really bothers me that much. Not like they stole money…………….or actually done favors and pushed appications through. The list goes on and on. I wonder what OBA would find if they started to dig around more………..

  30. watching says:

2 down 1 to go! let’s have it mr crockwell!

  31. DarkSideofTheMoon says:

OBA and supporters are eating their own….

  32. Tricks are for Kids says:

To ALL the “REAPERS” above (you know who you are) this article is NOT about the PLP, Marc Bean, etc…..Stick to the issue at hand. Mr.Pettingill has resigned (reasons to be fully disclosed laterI’m sure) and Mr. Moniz has taken his place…Stick to the topic for ONCE stop digressing…..#carryon………………It’s all a part of a plan I’m sure and soon someone will be able to say #checkmate……

  33. Audley Quallo says:

Boy this is just getting better and better. I think the cast and crew from Scandal need to come to Bermuda and start shooting the next season here. Where is Olivia Pope when you need her?

  34. iResign says:

Dunkley needs to bounce….the Establishment needs to GO

  35. MisterMan311 says:

This shows the real difference between the PLP and the OBA:

When OBA Ministers mess up, they take it on the chin and resign for the good of the country.

When PLP Ministers messed up, they blame it on someone or something else and keep a cloud of suspicion hanging over the country.

I may be very disappointed with the OBA, but I am absolutely disgusted with the PLP.

    • And while they were at it still spend money like drunken sailors!!!

    • sonso says:

How so? AT least Cannonier and Pettingil had the gusto to resign. EB had way too much at stake to even contemplate that ahead of his planned handing over to Paula.

    • Selective Memory says:

PLP Ministers have resigned when they messed up. Google it! Please stop trying to start trouble.

      • Hmmm says:

SO therefore you agree Bean should resign over Scaurgate, Spicegate and gamblegate.

    • No More Deception....Accountability Please! says:

Taking something on the chin is something that is done when people are looking or whether they are not looking. These resignations have nothing to do with taking it on the chin but rather more to do with political expediency based on the run-away train wreck that has been internally caused. Integrity would have drawn this matter to a close a long time ago.

Fahy has to go because he was aware of the donation and the account.

  36. Lick My Chicken says:

I’m on my third bag of popcorn and 5th chicken wing. damn this show is good. I’m a damn couch potato and I have the right to be with all the scandal going on.

  37. Unbelievable says:

To me this is the former AG reigning on his own steam and not being pushed by Premier Dunkley. It’s a good move. Says more than what the PLP ever did. They walked around the place like they had no issues. of course, that wasn’t true.

I’m feeling like this entire new chapter is a cleansing for the OBA. A restart is not a bad position to be in. The PLP needs to clean house too, after all, they are still the same old PLP as before December 18, 2012.

    • really? says:

yeah, right, clean up the PLP rank, too. Marc Bean resign!

  38. blindbutcansee says:

Oh what a tangled web we weave………….

  39. Terry says:

    Lord.
This is starting to sound once again like a US Football game.

    Third down.
    20 seconds remaining.
    10 yard line.

QUARTERBACK FAKES em, kicks the ball and they win by one point.

Back Benchers or whom you brought from the bench.

Gives a new meaning to sidelines.

Imagine what my ole mate Kenny would do as Minister Without Portifino.

  40. jonah says:

It’s high time both sets of supporters take a chill pill – the bickering / silly banter / My party is better than yours nonsense is, well, nonsense.

The not so progressive party was dismissed by popular vote and a lack of same and now the OBA by request and votes are the caretakers / managers of the country. Looking back at what / wasn’t done by those in green is not an acceptable excuse for unwise and what apears to be unethical behaviour. Grow up OBA’s, this political game you willingly entered in is not for the weak, so grow a pair / man up and sort yourselves and the country out..

  41. Wake up Bermuda says:

Don’t be fooled Bermuda. They are playing a game. This was a plan from the beginning. The Puppeteer( Gibbons) is pulling the strings. Remember Mark Pettingill has a job with the new bank. Bermuda don’t go to sleep. Stay on guard.

    • Hmmm says:

Yes and there are aliens in the night sky too.

    • employee says:

Gibbons is the most honest man out of both parties…his d last person to be pulling strings, and if u really think that you don’t have a clue about him or his family. FOH!!!

    • Build a Better Bermuda says:

I would actually recommend you get some sleep, lack of sleep causes delirium, low mental function, hallucinations, paranoia… A whole host of physical and mental degradations and your posting seems to confirm you may be suffering from these.

  42. Good Stuff says:

TBH, I’m indifferent about the decision to fly on the jet. I think the real issue is the failure to disclose the $300k donation. I feel like this shuffling is simply a smoke screen to satisfy those banging the RESIGN drum.

We must continue to hold our leaders accountable. Never stop asking questions.

  43. Peace and Happiness says:

Looks like we need to have another election.

  44. jean says:

Like I said in 2008 ” I told you so” Here comes the ” ole UBP dawgs” and the worst thing the OBA can do is put Bob Richard at the head of ANYTHING!!!
Is there another election on the horizion……Nuff Said

    • Build a Better Bermuda says:

Why, he know more about finance than the entire PLP put together.

  45. Terry says:

    UPDATE.
    4pm local time.
    Where is Chris
    Laverne,
    Betty,
    Santana,

    Stay tuned.

    9pm release

  46. jean says:

I told you so” Here comes the ” ole UBP dawgs” and the worst thing the OBA can do is put Bob Richard at the head of ANYTHING!!!
Is there another election on the horizion……Nuff Said

  47. Awake says:

Damn just 17 months in and the PLP has called checkmate the king was caught slipping and two “knights” wow great three dimensional chess the PLP is playing! Oba are being out played!

    • Terry says:

      We had to deceive you.
      Whats in your wallet ‘Awake’.

      • Awake says:

Why you want to know what’s in my wallet? Do you want me to make a donation? So maybe I can secure a spot when the gaming bill is passed? Hmmm also I notice our pics are both triangles only yours is pointing down “negative” while mine points up with a big smile…ironic huh?

  48. Campervan says:

    Hmmmmmmmmm,
    zurich or Cayman.
zurich has all that skiing and great food, but then Cayman has the beach.
    What to do?

  49. It's about time! says:

Here’s a little something for all the OBA haters to chew on….in spite of being labeled with “He was, still is, and always will be UBP” the MOST POPULAR politician in our country, across the board, is now the LEADER of our very same country!! GAME OVER!!!

    • mixitup says:

I dare him to call an election, then we will see how popular he is..lol

      • haha says:

THIS IS NOT A GAME OR WHICH TEAM YOU SUPPORT YOU DUMMY…this is real life **** and if it f**** up then YOU AND YOUR FAMILY will be down the toilet REGARDLESS of what color you are, WHICHEVER party you support, or WHOEVER’S in power! Grow the f*** up you moron!

  50. watchinandwatn says:

    Bermuda,

As I watch this saga unfold I am deeply saddened. Hopefully, upon

    1. the inevitable resignation of Minister Crockwell, (who will surely put Bermuda’s interest before his own);
    2. the removal of any unelected yet paid Ministers; and
    3. the removal of all the various paid friends and family consultants, appointed during the OBA’s short tenure,

the OBA can get back to the serious business at hand; namely restoring the government’s credibility; restoring the faith of our dwindling investors; leading by example in the reduction of Parliamentary expenses; and leading our people and country back to prosperity.

Please Premier Dunkley, do what is right and get us past the mistakes of the past 18 months and quickly.

  51. mixitup says:

One more resignation and the Governor needs to step in.

    • Terry says:

      Step in and do what.
      Your getting paid.
      Monies coming in
      Debts being serviced.

      Your point?
      Where is my $800 million.

      Nothing like fine wine.

  52. Kraken says:

Do people think he resigned over jetgate? Lol he resigned to make mass money and escape the racist slandering that us the PLp. Who would not prefer a solid private life to the political kindergarten that exists today.

And now Marc ‘kingpin of far side white hill field’ is linking fahy into the same bs……lol fahy works harder than the cabinet combined, his biggest sin is he is white, which for the one trick pony PLp is easy bait.

    • Coffee says:

But , but Mark fought for over ten long arduous years to become a Honorable and respectable minister . Are you saying that he gave all that up for money ? I say yes , but he got caught !

  53. Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

like they say karma is a b!t@h…what goes around comes around…cant wait to vote plp back in…..the oba should jus dissolve now and let the pirates take over, then sink the ship….lmfao

  54. Proud Bermudian says:

One stone three birds fly away OBA!

  55. JUNK YARD DOG says:

Reform the United Bermuda Party and every one will jump on that boat and start paddling.

    Catch 22

    Your dammed if you do.
    Your dammed if you don’t.
    Dam it !
    Full speed ahead.

Bermuda will not rest until 800 is accounted for.

  56. Coffee says:

    Disgraced…

  57. just saying says:

Feeling deceived by both parties because they ALL promise you so much and then get caught up in their own importance…step down Mr. Crockwell and do the right thing..but please don’t have Marc Bean lead the PLP….I cringe when he speaks….someone please teach him appropriate dialogue…you can’t be on the world stage and not speak!
I am praying for this beautiful island of mine…we in a big, big mess and just when you think it can’t get worse….it seems to implode. Too many people hurting..too many homes being lost..our children are looking at a grim future. As to what is left of this shambolic government just get on with the business we employ you to do!

    • Concerned Citizen says:

Marc Bean is obviously turning into the OBA worst nightmare, judging by many of the comments. Let’s see, in return for the PLP holding the OBA UBP accountable, the OBA have issued 3 lawsuits against him, secretly taped him in parliament(7months later, use this tape as a distraction), had the police/DPP/RG investigate his business while other betting establishments DID NOT have a licence, etc…….reminds me of the good ole days when strong, courageous leader like Dr Gordon, Rossovelt Brown, Ewart Brown were attacked mercilously…….lol! Don’t stop now Leader Bean…..keep the fire burning!

      • I doubt EFB belongs on the same podium as Dr. Gordon or Roosevelt Brown. He had no role in creating the BIU nor the PLP, nor was there for the decades in opposition. He did however usurp the achievements of long time activists like Jennifer Smith and Alex Scott. I also firmly believe that the PLP Dec 2012 election loss had its roots in Dr. Brown’s incredibly arrogant, finger pointing, race baiting, sectarian, 2009 campaign – a humbler Government would have survived despite the downturn.

Now, can we have Marc Bean resign? Bermuda does not need the likes of him.

  58. A few observations:

    1. I think there is a major mole somewhere in the OBA upper hierarchy or caucus. When exposed this person will cross the floor mumbling something to the effect of ‘same old UBP.’ No less than others who crossed this way, it is probably more about personal gain and arrogance.

    2. When the PLP win next time, the country will effectively be ungovernable because of their failure to recognize and respect the present legitimate government. Capital inflows will cease, capital outflows will increase to the point that controls will be needed, and anybody with half a brain will look elsewhere. On this present course, any victory will be pyhric and short lived.

    3. In the near term, until the political parties come to their senses and work for the good of Bermuda, the only investors we will attract are profiteers and speculators. Shame on both your parties.
