Swimming: BASA Update Long Course Records

The Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association [BASA] has updated the Long Course Meter Record following two recent events, with the CARIFTA Games in Aruba seeing the island’s swimmers set a number of new records.

HAC/MAC Spring Invitational – April 11th to April 13th, 2014 – Canada

11 and 12 Boys

Ethan Daley is the new 800 Meter Freestyle record holder clocking 10:37.65, breaking Tyler Smith’s record of 11:25.59 set on May 14th, 2010, Daley also holds the 200 Meter Individual Medley record holder clocking 2:39.82, breaking Nicholas Patterson’s record of 2:41.04 set on April 9th, 2007

CARIFTA Swimming Championships – April 22 – 26, 2014 – Aruba

11 and 12 Girls

  • Emma Harvey – 50 butterfly, 0:30.11, preliminaries on April 23rd, 2014; breaking her own record of 0:30.75 set on July 28th, 2013
  • Emma Harvey – 50 butterfly, 0:29.55, finals on April 23rd, 2014; breaking her own record of 0:30.11 set on April 23rd, 2014

  • Nicholas Brando – 200 backstroke, 2:41.20, preliminaries on April 25th, 2014; breaking Stephen Fahy’s record of 2:41.63 set on May 1st, 1990 [This record had previously stood for 24 years!]
  • Ethan Daley – 200 individual medley, 2:37.06, preliminaries on April 24th, 2014; breaking his own record of 2:39.82 set on April 12th, 2014

13 and 14 Girls

  • Madelyn Moore – 50 freestyle, 0:26.81, preliminaries on April 25th, 2014; breaking her own record of 0:27.68 set on July 26th, 2013 [This is also a CARIFTA 13 and 14 girls age group record]
  • Madelyn Moore – 100 freestyle, 0:59.55, preliminaries on April 24th, 2014; breaking her own record of 1:01.11 set on June 23rd, 2013
  • Madelyn Moore – 100 backstroke, 1:09.62, preliminaries on April 23rd, 2014; breaking Shannon Hassell’s record of 1:10.70 set on July 1st, 2013
  • Madelyn Moore – 100 backstroke, 1:09.18, finals on April 23rd, 2014; breaking her own record of 1:09.62 set on April 23rd, 2014

  • Emma Harvey, Isabelle Dutranoit, Alyssa Paynter and Ashley Irby – 4 x 100 freestyle relay, 4:22.93, timed final on April 22nd, 2014; breaking the record of 4:29.00 set by Rebecca Heyliger, Claire Hawley, Kaitlyn Miller and Nicole Yearwood on July 7th, 2006

    The young lady Moore , is she related to all them Moores out in Spanish Point ? The Moore breads we use to call them , cause there were so many kids . Harvey , well Harvey’s all over the place . Not to many Washington around , Goerge just passed away , don’t know if any relation . Anyhow congrats to all you young swimmers and keep up the good works .
