U.S. Consul General To Hold Town Hall Meeting

May 8, 2014

U.S. Consul General Bob Settje will be holding a town hall meeting for American citizens at his official residence, Cedarhurst, at 33 Wilkinson Avenue in Hamilton Parish on Thursday, May 29, from 5.30pm through 7.30pm.

A spokesperson said, “Attendance will be limited for space reasons to the first 100 American citizens age 18 and over who register online at the U.S. Consulate website. Registration will go live at 10.00am on Monday, May 12, 2014. We regret that space restrictions preclude our accommodating non-American family members.

“The first 100 Americans registered will receive a notice that a space has been reserved for them. They will be asked to confirm their attendance several days prior to the meeting. Registrants not among the first 100 will be put on a wait list and notified should a space become available.

“Space will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, so the Consulate General recommends that interested Americans register as soon as possible. To gain admittance to the town hall meeting, each attendee will be required to bring his or her American passport.

“The town hall will provide an opportunity to get to know Consul General Settje and other Consulate officers and to ask questions. Mr. Settje looks forward to welcoming Americans to his home.”

Which Americans should sign up? Those that are visiting on cruise ships and need to be protected from the sewage…or those that have lived here for decades and don’t appreciate a civil servant from Fortress USA telling the world about a local problem that is far exceeded in many of the coastal communities of America? Perhaps Mr. Settje has done a great deal to assist Bermuda since his appointment, but many of us would be hard pressed to know in what way.
