Beacon Hill Lane Home Fire Extinguished

The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to the Beacon Hill Lane, Sandys area at approximately 6.15pm today [June 17 ] after smoke was seen emanating from a house.

Clothing left on top of a water heater located in the dwelling ignited but was quickly extinguished by Fire Service personnel who gained entry to the building.

Fire Service spokesperson Leonard Davis said, “The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service received a report of visible smoke emitting from a residence in Sandy’s parish and responded to the incident with two fire appliances staffed with eight firefighters.

“There was visible smoke coming from several windows of the residence. Four firefighters dressed in self-contained breathing apparatus and equipped with a 1½” hose line gained entry into the house to extinguish the fire.

“The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished in approximately five minutes.

“Firefighters then proceeded to ventilate the premises and conduct an internal search. The internal search discovered severe heat and smoke damage to the structure.

“A fire investigator was called to the scene to help determine the cause of the fire. The fire was determined to have started by a water heater igniting clothing which was placed on top of it.”
