New Hamilton Parking Fees Start In August

June 26, 2014

The City of Hamilton will be divided into three pay and display parking zones with separate pricing effective this August.

Chief Operating Officer and Secretary to the City of Hamilton, Edward Benevides stated, “Effective Monday, August 18, 2014 the Pay and Display zones in Hamilton will change, the city will be divided into three pay and display zones.

“In some instances, the cost to park has been reduced, in some locations the parking rates stay the same and in other instances parking rates will be introduced. There will be different prices for different zones in the city.

The zones and per hour rates are as follows:

  • Zone 1 parking will cost $2.00 an hour and covers all streets between Front Street and Church, including Church Street.
  • Zone 2 parking will cost $1.50 an hour and covers all streets between Church Street and Dundonald Street, including Dundonald Street.
  • Zone 3 parking will cost $1.00 an hour and covers all streets between Dundonald Street and North Street

Mr. Benevides continued, “There will be reduced all-day parking rates. All day parking at Bulls Head and Elliott Street Car Parks will be reduced to $5.00 a day or $1.00 an hour up to five hours.

“After five hours in these car parks, parking will have no further charge. Easy Park meters, mobile applications and pay and display tickets will continue to be in use in these car parks and will be adjusted to reflect the new price structure.”

“Signs will be erected around the city to ensure motorists will know which parking zone they are in. In order to avoid being clamped or ticketed motorists are urged to read the signage on the sidewalks and in car parks before they park and leave their vehicles.”

Mr. Benevides concluded, “Full details of the resolution together with the new City Parking Zones Map can be found on our website, cityofhamilton.bm.”

Here we go again with the public being squeezed even harder by an out of control bunch of clowns, these idiots have given themselves way to much authority and with all the alleged shady deals it’s time to stop the madness

    • Bermuda says:

Please, $2 dollars an hour is much less then the $15-$20 it cost to park in Boston, CT and Rhode Island.

      • -_- says:

This isn’t Boston, CT or Rhode Island tho

      • nuffin but the truth says:

but we are not in Boston!
        your arguement is moot!

      • Come Correct says:

Actually it’s not. Shipping my car to Boston, CT or Rhode Island would be insane…because this is Bermuda, where the referenced parking is…because we’re talking about Bermuda…not those places.

      • DK says:

Well this isn’t Boston, CT or Rhode Island now is it?

      • Bermuda says:

idiots. I was only stating those places because I have been there and live in Bermuda. Your complaining about $2 when even in America they pay 5x more for the same thing!

        • Anon Ymous says:

If we’re comparing apples to oranges, then i’m sure the price of fuel stateside would subsidise the parking fees.

    • Kunta says:

At Y-Gurl for a minute I thought you was describing O.B.A/ubp.
      LMFAO

  2. somuchless says:

    Still beats parking in America.

    • IT says:

Not really! There are plenty of available affordable, car parks in the US, where they won’t clamp your car for $100 fee!! That’s for sure!

  3. oh. says:

I’m assuming this is only Monday – Saturday from what, 8am-6pm? Can someone clarify?

    • Simple says:

The only thing that is changing is the pricing zones, it’s still the same hours as before.

  4. No More Drama says:

Why is north Hamilton cheaper ? To stimulate growth? Or deflate property prices?

  5. Sara says:

    Are bikes still free?

  6. Blue Familiar says:

Remarkably good way to convince people not to shop in Hamilton.

  7. Street Poler says:

Does this mean my pole will have signs on them now? Just makes street poling a little harder. I guess it will add to the art of it. #polefitness

    • C says:

The signs are already up and hv been for a while. They r covered with black trash bags

      • Family Man says:

There are a few other things at the CoH that I’d like to see covered in black trash bags.

        Wishful thinking, I know.

  8. nadia says:

Good job for Minister Fay, this will help our economy

  9. Tough Love says:

So now we all need an extra $100 a month to park. But COH can give fraudulent associations over $100k to let them party here. Min. Fahy, why did u approve this?!?

  10. bermudaboy says:

Here we go again, Bermuda puts up parking fees while the Cayman Islands have hardly any. Look to the future, while we still have one!

    • coolieh says:

That’s perhaps why their city looks like crap! I guess you’ve not been there? The private City of Caymana looks 1,000 times better!

  11. OhDear says:

That’s dumb .. and they wonder why this island is in the state that it is

  12. nomoremoney says:

after pissing away hundreds of thousands of dollars on a mayors conference….i suppose we need to pay for it.

Let me say there will be a problems if they try and do this for bikes, as they had originally planned.

hand over C of H to W&E and get rid of all the overhead expenses, including hundreds of thousand for free concerts and movies which nobody showed up for…etc.

  13. Ungrateful bunch you are says:

They just told you that Bullshead will now be 5$ instead of $7 a day with when you reach $5 you are at the max for the day. they took street parking up .25 cents and we still find the need to complain.
Let the ones who don’t have a car complain about the long wait for the bus or no bus coming.

  14. DBL says:

Bikes need to pay for parking. We keep making space for them to park and reducing parking for cars. They are using valuable space as well. Come on people – THINK

    • Sun says:

      What are you talking about!?!

Bike parking on the streets is decreasing with the change in the light systems. Look at the corner of Reid and Court, Cedar Avenue, etc. so many spots are no longer there. The only places left to park bikes are in the parking lots.

Furthermore, how do you propose a “pay and display” feature for a bike?

    • PBanks says:

CoH already proposed to make bike riders pay to park in the city.

No idea how it would work, especially if you factor in tourist bike rentals, but it’s really a silly idea.

    • James Herald says:

DBL. Every bike parked in town saves space because it ISN’T A CAR. People sould be encouraged to bring bikes so that people who drive cars will actually have somewhere to park. You should be glad people like me bring a bike to town cos it means there will be a space for you and your girt beeeg SUV.

Idiocy does not even begin to describe your comment.

      • Sara says:

So agree, you can park at least 5 bikes in every car spot. Why would they want to discourage driving a bike? So stupid. Every time you try to save a little money in BDA its like they catch on and quickly put an end to it. My facilities charge at belco went up from $33 to $49. That is one hell of a hike and I only went 15 watts over 700. If I ever own a home of my own in BDA someday, I will make sure to have enough money to go solar for most of my electricity.

  15. US Observer in Pink Sand says:

Not to compare parking in the US vs Bermuda, however parking in major metro areas is premium, and for obvious reasons. The main reason is to generate revenue…duh.

According to Time Magazine, the U.S title for Priciest Downtown Parking Meters doesn’t belong to Boston, San Francisco or even New York City. As of the new year, Chicago has the nation’s most expensive meters, charging $6.50 per hour.

According to Edward L. Glaeser, an economist at Harvard, “Just because something is publicly provided doesn’t mean that it should be free, or only $1.25 per hour. If a commodity is as scarce as land in Boston, we need a fair way of allocating it.

  16. Lynne Rose says:

I think it is unfair to compare Bermuda to the USA. In the USA there are many options for shopping and dining besides downtown areas. Malls, theaters, cinemas, restaurants and retails shops are accessible in suburbs and rural areas. Many of these places provide free parking. But here we really only have one place for most of our retail shopping, entertainment needs and many of our restaurants. Not only do we pay higher prices for fewer options when we do shop or eat out, but now we must also pay $2 an hour for the pleasure of spending our money. It is just one more reason why ‘Buy Bermuda’ remains a challenge.

    • coolieh says:

It’s been two dollars for years! Where have you been? Gosh, people just don’t understand facts! Just complain, complain, complain!

  17. bermy girl says:

ok, so Corporation of Hamilton, you have ever so kindly reduced the cost of parking at Bulls Head…what about Cavendish parking lot for those who work on the eastern side of the city?? If I drive in and park there, it cost upwards of $15.00 a day! I have called the Corporation to request information and have not received a satisfactory response.
    What a rip off!

  18. Judge & Jury says:

Don’t compare Bermuda to the U.S. If I shop there parking is free at the Malls, movies and the majority of places to go. Yes you might pay $20 parking at Amway Center while watching the basketball game or concert. That is different than going into the city to the bank getting supplies at the Super-mart on Front St, or getting to the salon. Than you get booted if you are 5 minutes late, because the van is sitting and waiting in the car park to put the boot on.
    What a rip off !
Especially when you can’t even park your bike in Hamilton for fear of it being stolen from the parking bays. The is no protection for the consumers.

Another reason not to go into the city

    • coolieh says:

Obey that law and you won’t get clamped. You not in kindergarden any more!

  19. nomoremoney says:

We should be looking at not bringing cars to town. Up the school bussing for a start, especially private schools. and then provide mini bussing for kids after school activities. There is no need for every parent and their car to be chauffeuring their kids around with one in each car. More bikes, bicycles, and other low or no carbon transport would be good. If we cared enough to care, we’d be a shinning example of self sufficiency for an island which is fully dependent on burning oil, expensive oil….

we just need to be more consciously organized.

    • PBanks says:

Problem is our road network isn’t really bike or pedestrian-friendly, and there’s little space and money to improve things.

      • coolieh says:

Secondly, then who pays for the road infrastructure maintenance? Gosh, people don’t know the real facts and spew nonsense?

Why are roads outside the city (and some in the city) in poor condition?

You cannot have you cake and eat it too!!!
