2014 Commonwealth Games Day #1 Results

tri140724The Commonwealth Games got underway in Scotland with several of Bermuda’s top athletes taking part, including Flora Duffy, Tyler Butterfield,  Jonathan Herring, Tucker Murphy,  Nick Kyme, Micah Franklin and Gemma Lightbourne.

Flora Duffy finished 8th in the Women’s Triathlon clocking a time of 2:02:18. Following a strong swim, she was able to get on the front of the pack cycling after the third lap, and wrapped up with an 8th place finish. Meanwhile Tyler Butterfield clocked a time of 1:55.31 on his way to finishing 19th in the Men’s Triathlon, while Jonathan Herring and Tucker Murphy were pulled out of the race after being lapped by the leaders on the Bike.

On the Squash Courts Nick Kyme went down 11-3, 11-4, 11-3 to second seed James Willstrop on the center court, while Robbie Maycock went down in straight sets 11-2, 11-5, 11-4 to Mohd Nafizwan.

Micah Franklin won his First Round match in a five setter 11-4, 11-4, 9-11, 8-11, 11-4 against Michael Kawooya. Franklin later had to come back and take on Campbell Grayson from New Zealand in their Round of 32 match and he went down in straight sets 11-1, 11-1, 11-4.

Gemma Lightbourne finished 29th overall in the Rhythmic Gymnastics. She finished 29th in the Ball with a score of 8.225, she finished 29th in the Hoop with a score of 8.825. With a score of 8.725, Lightbourne finished 30th in the Clubs and then she finished 30th in the Ribbon with a score of 7.550.
