Bermuda Anglers Club Jr Fishing Tournament

July 25, 2014

August 2014 marks the third annual Junior Fishing Tournament run by the Bermuda Anglers Club [BAC], an event open to all boys and girls aged 16 and under. This free tournament includes categories for both fishing from boats and fishing from the shore, with additional categories embracing children of all ages, allowing even the youngest of Bermuda’s children to try their hand.

The tournament will be held on August 24, 2014 no matter the weather conditions, with participating children able to start fishing at 8.30am.

A spokesperson said, “Over the past two years, we have seen over 300 kids have great fun in this family-oriented event. Tournament Director Kip Froud commented that the BAC has been delighted with the response to the tournament in previous years and has high hopes for the 2014 event.”

Mr. Froud said, “We wanted to hold an event where kids all across Bermuda could participate and enjoy time with their friends and family members. In the past two years it has been especially rewarding to see kids participating and having fun irrespective of the circumstances facing their families in these challenging economic times.

“And we want 2014 to be an even bigger success.”

“Fishing is a great way for families to spend time together and we encourage everyone on the island to get behind this important event. Each child that comes to the weigh station will receive a free t-shirt. The weigh-in will be held west of the Flagpole on Front Street between 3.00pm and 5.00pm on the afternoon of August 24.

“Children can enter any fish that they land other than undersized specimens and protected species, which includes parrotfish, billfish such as marlin, spearfish, and sailfish, and sharks. Part of the goal of the tournament is to help children understand and respect Bermuda’s Fisheries Regulations.

“The awarding of prizes will be held at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club on August 30 at 10.00am, with 25 prizes up for grabs.

“Entry forms are available online and at Flybridge Tackle. Go to the Bermuda Anglers Club Facebook page to keep up with all the Junior Tournament news. Sponsors will be confirmed and announced soon.”
