Bermuda Civic Ballet Welcomes Laura Hussey

July 17, 2014

Classes for this summer’s production, ETUDES, are now in their second week, and former English National Ballet ballerina Laura Hussey has arrived to teach classical ballet.

Ms. Hussey, who trained at the Royal Ballet School, subsequently had an illustrious career, dancing as First Artist with the Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet [now Birmingham Royal Ballet]; as Principal Dancer with the City Ballet of London, and as First Artist with the English National Ballet. She has also participated in musical theatre, and has amassed several years’ experience in teaching ballet.

This is Ms. Hussey’s third summer with Civic. She came out first in 2012 to dance Lady Capulet in Civic’s enchanting Romeo and Juliet at Fort Hamilton, and so popular were the classes she gave that she has been invited back both summers since then.

Ms. Hussey has taken over from James Waddell, who has to return to Royal Ballet Flanders, and will shortly be joined by Ballet Black’s Damien Johnson.

“Any local dancers who have not enrolled but would like to do so – it is not too late! Please check the schedule on Civic’s Facebook page and show up,” a spokesperson said.

Civic’s ETUDES [Summer Selections 2014], is scheduled for August 8th and 9th at 8pm at the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall. Tickets are $40 for adults,$30 for senior, and $20 for students under 18. They are available from www.ptix.bm or from the City Hall Box Office during the week of show from 12 noon -2.00pm.
