Bermuda Pacers To Compete In North Carolina

This weekend the Bermuda Pacers Track Club will make their 33rd appearance at the 2014 Russell E. Blunt East Coast Invitational Track Meet in North Carolina.

This event which has been hosted by the Durham Stride Track Club for the past 14 years will be held at the Durham Country Memorial Stadium from Friday, July 18 thru to Sunday, July 20, 2014.

At last years’ event, the Pacers team placed 5th overall and had upcoming high jump star Elisha Darrell capture the 13-14 boys’ outstanding Age Group title and their 9-10 girls team win their division. This year the club will have 32 athletes compete in 72 individual events and 4 relay teams in the 4X400 metres.

Leading this year’s team will be Carifta athletes Taahira Butterfield, Sakari Famous and David Darrell. Taahira will compete in the 17-18 girls 100 and 200 metres, Sakari will compete in the 13-14 girls high jump while David will compete in the 15-16 boys 800 and 1500 metres.

The club will also be sending a full contingent of athletes in the 13-14 girls, 11-12 girls and 9-10 girls divisions. Competing in the 13-14 girls will be Syriah Lottimore, (200, 400 metres and long jump) Zariah Simmons (200 and 400 metres, Zekiah Lewis, (100 metres, high jump and Long jump), Mikaela Outerbridge (800 and 1500 metres) and Zye Simmons (100 and 200 metres) who will make her first appearance at the event.

In the 11-12 girls division, the team will have Koa Goodchild (400 and long Jump), Tyler Hines (200 and 400), Selah Tuzo (800 and 1500metres): Danni Watson 100 and 200 metres), Noaah Powell (100 and 200m), Makayla Tucker (400 and long jump), Kayla Raymond (400 and 800 metres) and Corriah Simmons (100 and 200 metres) will all be making their first appearance at the event.

In the 9 —10 girls division, the team will consist on Jade Johnson (800 and 1500 metres): Jahstice Grant (100 and 200 metres), Asia-Leigh Hollis (100 metres and Long jump), Sanaa Rae Morris 100, 200 metress and long Jump), Yasmyne Smith (800 and 1500 metres) and Tes’yah-Mahle Astwood (400 and 800 metres) who will be competing in this event for the first time. All three of the girl’s teams will compete in the 4X400 metre relay events.

In the 9-10 boys division, the team will consist of Niyan Outerbridge who will be competing in the 100, 200 and long jump and Kahzi Sealy who will compete 800 and the 1500 metres were he captured a bronze medal in last years’ event.

In the 11-12 boys category Jayden Furbert-Jacobs and Clevonte Lodge Bean will compete in the 100, 200 and 400 metres, Ryan Outerbridge will compete in the 800, 1500 and 3000 metres, while Samuels Darrell will compete in the high jump and long jump.

The 13-14 boys division consists of the top middle distance runners on the island Jayden Ming (800,1500, and 3000 metres) and Aaron Jacobs (400, 800 and 1500 metres)) both who won medals at last year’s event and Malik Joell who will be making his debut in the 1500 and 3000 metres.

Accompanying the team to the event will be members of the Pacer executive, coaches, parents and family members. The team will return home on Tuesday, July 22, 2014.
