Bermuda’s Flag Raised in Glasgow, Scotland

The 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland got underway in the Village with the Flag Raising Ceremony, with the island’s flag hoisted to the sounds of “Hail to Bermuda.”

Minister of Community, Culture and Sports Wayne Scott, Bermuda Olympic Association President Judy Simons, Bermuda Olympic Association General Secretary Phillip Guishard as well as the Permanent Secretary to the Minister of Sports Wayne Carey all joined the athletes as the Bermuda flag was eaised indicating that Bermuda were indeed at the Games.

The Scottish School of Dance performed a few songs and dances in front of the athletes before the flag was raised. The Opening Ceremony will Officially kick the Games off on Wednesday night, July 23rd.

      Why? It’s our anthem when we share anthems with many of the other nations – just like at the island games – Go Bermuda – I wish all the athletes the very very best. Proud of you! Make the most of the experience.

    I bet the Scots could not give a doggies whether our team is played in with Hail to Bermuda or God Save the Queen. Why don’t we forget all the politics for a change and what we perceive divides us, and simply all speak with one voice and let our athletes enjoy one of the greatest sporting events in the world. Go Team Bermuda.
