FIFA Committee Rejects Suarez Biting Appeal

July 10, 2014

The FIFA Appeal Committee — which is chaired by Bermuda’s Larry Mussenden — has rejected the appeals lodged by Uruguayan Luis Suarez and the Uruguayan Football Association.

According to a statement from FIFA, the terms of the decision taken by the FIFA Appeal Committee were communicated to the player and the Uruguayan FA today [July 10]

On June 26th, FIFA banned Suárez from all “football-related activities” for four months for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini, ruling him out of the rest of the World Cup.

Chiellini was left with visible teeth marks on his left shoulder after his run in with Suarez late in Uruguay’s 1-0 World Cup victory over Italy, a result that saw Uruguay reach the knockout stage and the Italians eliminated.

It’s not the first time the striker has been been banned for biting opponents. In 2013 he was banned for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, and in 2010 he was banned for biting PSV Eindhoven’s Otman Bakkal.
